"Kith" is the word to describe people who you are close to (friends, neighbors) who are not necessarily related to you genetically. Thus the phrase, "kith and kin." And yeah, a lot of them you might call "aunt(ie)" or "uncle" or "cousin."
That's exactly what I grew up with. Kin and people not our kin but that were close to our family were always called "auntie" or "uncle" [name].

And lots of us are "adoptive" parents of trans young adults - my family of bonus children is nearly as dear to me as the ones I raised from birth, and I fight just as hard for their right to exist and flourish.
I do not exaggerate when I say that many of the most FURIOUS and incredibly EFFECTIVE and DEVOTED activists I know are parents or relatives of trans kids.
