it is wild how many non-trans people seem to be taking an issue with this extremely correct thread: transphobia was an extreme minority position that was isolated to fringe reactionary christian conservatives, but through "liberal" publications laundering bigoted talking points it became accepted
There was an elite consensus against transphobia so strong Texas’ Republican Speaker of the House Joe Straus refused to pass a transphobic law, the public broadly agreed, and then a few elite liberals took it upon themselves to make transphobia popular and more or less succeeded.

Performing readings of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Sonnets with the National Chamber Ensemble at the Kennedy Center was a thrill. A sold-out crowd was enchanted by Artistic Director Leo Sushansky's violin speaking to us through the centuries.

All for this: EVERY anti-trans bill defeated. The line held. We held it.

This reminds me that “I am apolitical” is by default a deeply conservative position, and nobody’s particularly keen to interrogate it
This is continued journalistic malpractice from the @startribune.com normalizing a violent white male suspect. He owned a private security company called Praetorian Guard, traveled overseas to preach against abortion and LGBTQ+ people, and attended a bible college that preaches "violent prayer."
Suspect showed few signs of political extremism before lawmaker shootings
Friends and associates say Vance Boelter, who was apprehended late Sunday and charged with murdering a state lawmaker and her husband, was mild-mannered and did not appear to be fixated on politics.

I'm going to have a lot more thoughts later, but as we wait for this last flicker of life in this very last bill to die, I am filled with so much joy. This was an ugly fight, and this is a goddamn satisfying victory.
The Maine Senate blocked a bill advanced last week by the House that sought to prevent transgender girls from competing in girls sports.
The vote means the bill, sponsored by Rep. Richard Campbell, R-Orrington, and approved by the House of Representatives Friday, will likely die.

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.
I count 49 news headlines on the NYT mobile app home page right now, not including opinion, sports or cooking. None of them are about the massive protests yesterday.

After a long and emotional week in my sphere of this world we’re surviving, I’ve missed a lot and I’m not feeling too inspired to catch all the way up; that said, I just checked BS for the first time in several days just in time for the “parade” and lmaoooo I love everyone in this bar

if you have spent money on harry potter in the last five years, your money has contributed to the deaths of real trans people & the defense of their killers

that is a fact, don't celebrate a harry potter video game during pride month for fuck's sake

Not going to lie, learning this gives me a sigh of relief. I had seen numbers showing the active military is not as Trumpist as this speech/rally seemed to suggest. Nice to know that this was basically a handpicked audience of supportive soldiers.
Really important story - army officials asked soldiers to identify themselves if they don't agree with Trump's politics that way he'd get only supportive soldiers in uniform during his political rally on base. Heavier soldiers were also barred from participating.
Bragg Soldiers Who Cheered Trump's Political Attacks While in Uniform Were Checked for Allegiance, Appearance
As Trump viciously attacked his perceived political foes, he whipped up boos from the gathered troops directed at California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom.

I swear to god, every single day Maine Dems make it harder for me to show up and smile and talk to them about how human beings deserve to live safely like they're the fucking children that will die as a result of their mealy-mouthed "moderation".
Under intense pressure — and threats of a lawsuit — from Republicans and gun rights groups, Democrats reversed course and agreed to hold a public hearing on a citizens initiative that would make it easier to temporarily remove access to firearms from people who are in a crisis.

This whole thread!!!
🧵 I generally really like The Mary Sue, but I really really dislike the way this article frames that we should "respect" Nick Frost for acknowledging JK Rowling's transphobia and simply saying we should "sit with the discomfort" for NUMEROUS reasons 1/?

Just clarifying, though this is not difficult to grasp: Anyone working on an industry project with a notorious transphobic bigot is OK with transphobic bigotry.

We are living in scary and uncomfortable times as the pace of change speeds up under the motivations of the worst people alive, and it is very tempting to argue over our own righteousness (speaking from experience), but sometimes we should focus on the results we want and work from there.

The way trans issues and trans lives have been covered by contemporary media is the ultimate example of talking about people like they're not in the room *while we're in the room* begging to speak
When you pub a 9500w story all about us but don’t include a single trans voice (which the nyt did) you’re not covering the ppl affected by the issues. You’re treating the ppl as incidental objects in a debate they’re excluded from
