Hello, time for an introduction! 🍃 I'm Tee, and I write fantasy/gothic fiction featuring trans protagonists and atmospheric settings, with lots of details on flora and fauna. I am currently looking for literary representation and putting short stories out on submission. It's wonderful to be here. 🌱
Absolutely my favourite read of this year! I've recommended it to so many people! 🦢✨

Happy winter birding season! I do a lot of birding and had the wonderful opportunity to visit this family of 8 trumpeter swans. Look at these beautiful birds!

“Write every day.“
Not everyone can write every day. This is privileged and ableist. It also makes people feel like failures when they don’t.

Cosigned. Many story-telling traditions don’t include active protagonists. Demanding that they be closes the door on a world of great stories.
“Your protagonist must be an active force.“

I like to write (and read) about characters who can’t or won’t be active, for any number of compelling reasons. There are so many kinds of stories to tell; why limit ourselves to the self-proclaimed “heroes”?

Agree very much so. Some of my favourite stories involves protagonists who are reluctant, who have to be "carried" by other characters/by the plot, who have so much difficulty facing the narrative. These characters are not "passive" to me, they are simply members of a different character archetype.

We're open for early subs from Dec 24-31! If you're an equity-deserving writer, send us SFF short fiction (500-3,500 words) & poetry.

Not sure what we want? Less fabulism and more entrenched fantasy/scifi. We'd love pieces that deliver on the promise of their title (show us the monster!!)

I'm planning on reading 31 short stories in the month of December as a way to deal with some winter blues. ❄️ I will thread my reads here!

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Speaking of novellas... this is art representative of my fantasy novella about a struggling young trans man knight who is called upon to kill a unicorn that is herself slaying dragons important to the local ecosystem. I commissioned this beautiful piece from @milirine.bsky.social!

“You are either very wise,” said Twirl, “or very cruel.”

The unicorn’s long lashes swept over their cheek. “Why can I not be both?”
