i used to Walk Around And Look At Things because it made my art better. now it feels more like making art takes away from the time i have to do the actually-important work of Walking Around And Looking At Things

I wrote about my time in Minneapolis last week, about what is involved in creating bottom-up, decentralized networks of care.

Some things I quite nastily shouted at someone telling me about ai in a dream just then:
“I have so many ideas that I couldn’t finish them all if I lived for another 10 lifetimes”
“An ai cannot look at this heather the way I can, it just can’t, it’s impossible, that’s impossible, that’s art”

The Boundary Waters, one of the largest wilderness areas left in the US, is at risk! The House could vote to overturn a ban on polluting sulfide-ore mining at the headwaters TODAY, setting a precedent for extraction on other public lands. Contact your reps right now and ask them to vote NO on HJ140!

Protests, mass meetups, conferences—a youth-led movement is reclaiming the Luddite mantle, rejecting a future dominated by Silicon Valley companies, toxic apps, and generative AI.

This fall, a "Luddite renaissance" is in full swing.

Would they be able to get away with all this if we didnt have to go to work? Do work, rent and bills only exist to produce profit, or is it just as importantly a function of social pacification, punishment and control? Is the economy just about money, or is it also about power?

got a new batch of fabriano recently and it’s changed again — much thinner/floppier, different texture on both sides, and now the watermark is stamped backwards? anyone know what the “right” side is supposed to be now before i ruin a bunch of paintings?

don’t you love when the larva that lives in the reference-wood on your desk crawls out while you’re painting to say hello?

Took a bit of a break from drawing, was able to come back with a tree drawing.
I found this tree standing with its rock in Cannock Chase Forest. Lots of beautiful ancient oaks still hanging around there and summertime is really beautiful in England, it’s hard not to draw it
