This is why I've been subscribed to Kagi since I first discovered it by total accident in the summer of 2024. I was on a niche website talking about niche tech and I stumbled upon it. Gave it a try and never looked back. The search is fantastic, and AI is (crucially) not shoved in our faces.
Matt Stoller mentioned Kagi in a recent BIG post (that's his Substack site). I checked it out and it took all of about 10 minutes for me to sign up for the $10 monthly plan. So I thought I'd pass along the tip to others and include a review from a tech expert (which I certainly am not).
Dumping Google’s enshittified search for Kagi
Enough is enough: I’ve jettisoned Google in favor of a search engine that doesn’t treat me like a product.

For the first time ever, I had to make a payment in crypto.

I can now confidently say that crypto payments combine the speed of a dial up modem and the ease of updating the drivers on a 1998 HP Laserjet printer.

This is like when young people only get liability car insurance and not collision because they can’t afford more so when they actually get into accident they are colossally fucked
DeSantis said “Most people, particularly under 50, what they really need is a catastrophic plan that’s affordable, where then they can pay whatever they’re doing out of a health savings account.”

Ron DeSantis says people under 50 don’t have much use for comprehensive health insurance
'Catastrophic care' should be enough for them.

Sooo theoretically...if I was an aspiring dictator attempting to use the military to crush my domestic opposition and consolidate power, would it be a good idea to stop paying my troops?
This is a military wife calling out Mike Johnson on C-SPAN this morning
Yesterday Johnson had the temerity to announce publicly that he will NOT call the House back to pass emergency pay for our troops
Can't imagine why he thought taking callers on C-SPAN would go well for him..
Republican C-SPAN caller to Mike Johnson: "As a Republican, I'm very disappointed in my party, and I'm very disappointed in you, because you have the power to call the House back. You refuse to do that just for a show."

Why TF are these guard troops wearing masks too!? Even in Iraq we weren't authorized to wear the gator, beyond around our neck at the ready, unless there was an actual full fledged sand storm. Sgt. Major would have blasted us for that. Where is leadership at now? Fucking disgrace.

Well gang, it's happened: OpenAI has built a platform filled exclusively with fake, AI content.

I've been playing with it for a few days, and I think it's safe to say we're basically kissing reality goodbye.

Here's the story: www.npr.org/2025/10/03/n...
