I've been bedridden for the last 10 months for medical reasons, and I'm still about 1000$ behind on being able to pay for my car and storage. I'm sorry to keep asking, but if you could send a couple dollars, it'd really help.

Since I threw a linux on my 2013 Mac Pro, I dusted off my 2012 Mac Pro and set it up with OCLP and macOS 15. With the M2 NVME adapter in a PCIE slot and the RX 580 for Metal support, it runs impressively well with its original quad core cpu. Planning a CPU upgrade in the near future for it.

I love my house (and neighborhood) in the fall, it’s just the right balance of creepy and beautiful 😄

Recently had my parents over for dinner and my father (who has 60 years experience with historic homes) inspected my house. It's much nicer than he expected, needs a lot of work, but solid, the heating system was installed right, and what was done wrong just made him laugh 😆

A mystery is afoot

So these international service master tubes are just rebranded

They bought out lots from all over the world

Now to figure out who's tube is actually is

When testing out a new OS it's helpful to use a M2 SSD that doesn't have a history of failure. System locked up, no boot device on reboot. Pull drive, realize this happened before. After some data recovery, I'm back and running with another random M2 SSD from my pile, hopefully one that won't fail🍀🤞

Sometimes there's really cool stuff on FB Marketplace. Here's a data terminal used on the Cassini mission in a flight case with exceedingly cool NASA worm logo "CRITICAL SPACE ITEM" stickers.

Fiancee is teaching her final AI class (incl. responsible use of AI) for kids today, so I'm on standby in case a server hiccups (10+ year old enterprise equipment). Used my time for house repairs, restoring some windows, and today I started pulling carpet off the stairs leading to the 3rd floor.

My fiancée is amazing. She randomly gives me radios and vintage computers such as this super cool vintage Zenith clock radio she gifted me as she was departing for work responsibilities. We are insanely busy right now, but it’ll be worth the effort, and these gifts are amazing 🥰

Threw a Linux distro on my 2013 Mac Pro (quad upgrade to 12 core) and besides some minor necessary configuration tweaks, it runs pretty darn great. macOS 12 ran fine, but lack of updates for some programs became limiting and I needed a Linux desktop (long story, big Linux tower is offline for now).

Doing a lot of computer work and found that a wireless keyboard would be ideal for my ergonomics. Modifying a Kinesis Advantage for wireless and discovered it is ps/2 behind usb. Swapped in my own ps/2 to usb adapter and a cheap usb keyboard bluetooth module and it's working. Battery next.

A friend recently acquired a couple trailers of radios and parts, knew my fiancée and I would be interested in some of it. The Hallicrafters Sky Champion is a great addition to the collection and the Magnavox chair side will clean up great. The TRS-80 model 4 is an exciting bonus.

Working on some old network switches the serial console wasn't working properly, not responding to button presses. Turned out I had grabbed the wrong serial adapter, RS-422 doesn't work well when RS-232 is needed. Making good progress now 😄

Been incredibly busy, but working on plans to setup a dedicated vintage computer lab in a room separate from my lab. Need to clear the room out (it’s been storage) and do some minor ceiling repair before I can start setting it up. Looking forward to getting some free time to start on it.

Hi #PortfolioDay !

I'm Comchia, and I'm learning pixel art, to someday make my own computer game. I usually like drawing in a vintage computer style, and want to learn more about drawing in the EGA style.

A few of my favourite pieces I've made:

Quick recap of my home theater subwoofer before work this morning. Picked up this circa 2006 Paradigm UltraCube 10 off neighbors last year, working, but these are prone to electrolytic capacitor failure and it was showing symptoms. With fresh caps it is back up and running in the home theater.

Cleaned up the cabinet for the Howard 118 and installed new grill cloth. The cabinet was refinished in the past and has some mistakes, but doesn’t detract from the beautiful wood grains. If all goes well I’ll be able to reinstall the chassis by the weekend.

The Howard 118 that had the burned up resistor is coming back to life. Halfway through the circuit, most of the resistors and capacitors in the power supply and audio amp were 100% out of tolerance, plus there were a couple dead tubes, a couple shorts, and one broken wire. #antiqueradio

This is why I don’t just plug in antique radios without evaluating them first. This radio exploded one of its audio output power resistors. I’ll replace the blown resistor, power filter caps, and spot check resistors before I think about powering it up.

Andy Hertzfeld wrote this fun little app on Nov.17, 1985, apparently using version 1.0 of the Macintosh 68000 Development System. (His source code requires the "MacTrap.D" include file, which was
