2012 was one of the best years. I have a 15" that I've been using since 2013, it was on macOS until recently. I'm currently cleaning up a 2012 13" that had been soaked in a rainstorm. They run as well or better than most new lowend laptops, lots of life left in them 😀

I believe it! I’ll be correcting decades of improper repairs, some laughably bad, others dangerous. Fortunately my parents are skilled home restorers and taught me many valuable repair and restoration skills that I thankfully still have.

I’ve found that boot time improves, but I’ve seen the most dramatic improvement when working with large files, loading huge games or copying large files. A racing games I enjoy used to take 5-6 minutes to load, with the m2 it takes 2 minutes.

Arch, gave it a try once years ago and didn’t understand it yet, this time I did. I’m using Niri for a lightweight desktop environment. I’ve since installed it on my 2012 MBP, my Ryzen 9 tower, and was amazed at how well it ran on a 2010 Core2Duo MBP.

An extra 500-600 sq-ft, the old maids quarters: 2 bedrooms, a 3rd small room with no windows, a full tiny bathroom, a hallway that was once used as a kitchenette, and a long storage room (35 feet long, but only 5.5 feet at its tallest). I have my lab in the larger bedroom and office in the other.

I just unboxed it! 😆

I listen to my share of modern music on my vintage radios, Lady Gaga, Chappell Roam, Birthday Massacre, Flogging Molly, Robot God, Steam Powered Giraffe. It was novel at first, but normal for me these days 😄

I was going to try a newer macOS on the Mac Pro, but most of what I work on is in Linux and I have my M1 MacBook Pro for my mac stuff.

I’ve wanted one for a long time! I’m hopeful that it is in working condition, but if not it’ll be a fun repair protect 😄
