tl;dr give to your local foodbank

Early today. I stopped at a church food pantry in an affluent Chicago suburb. 2 hours before the pantry opens, probably 50 people were lined up. I got an earful from the pastor (no she didn't vote for him) on expected shortages, because funding has been cut off.
Must logoff until people stop sharing RFK’s torso. See ya.

History teaches us that the greatest harms often begin with the quiet acceptance of the unacceptable. I have seen where that road leads, and I will not walk it again without resistance.

I was 25 years old sitting in O'Hare airport when he walked by. I later got a photo of the Queen Mother from about the same distance on that roll of film. Really should have gone into photojournalism!
In 1987 I spent an 8-hour layover in O'Hare figuring out how to use my father's borrowed 35mm camera. Just as I felt confident I knew how to use it I looked up and Jessie Jackson walked by. I scurried ahead of him to get this photo and man did that annoy his security team! So this is my first photo.

I often think about the fact that if the FBI et al had not killed Fred Hampton, he would be 78 today. Younger than Jesse Jackson was. Must have felt strange to outlive many of your contemporaries by decades.

Rev. Jesse Jackson's "I *am* somebody..." remains one of the all-time great pieces of 20th century rhetoric / agitprop

And he could deliver it at a Black separatist meeting, the Democratic National Convention, or on god-blessed Sesame Street (see below 🥹)

My 93 yo dad got an email from the doctor. Sent at noon, the email said that he had an appointment at 2 pm that day. We saw this well past 2pm. No appointment in MyChart.

I messaged the nurse. Her response was, this is what the system does when it bills insurance. Disregard it.
when we say being sick is a full time job, navigating the hostility of broken systems is a big part of it

the typical user experience in our medical system is unacceptably bad, and you should care about this even if you don't interface w/ it yet

(bc best-case scenario, long life, one day you will)
I love how despite the blessing of the level 1 neurologist, I still cannot schedule the LP in anything resembling a timely fashion! MyChart says to call. Calling gets me voice mail that tells me to schedule online. Trying to schedule online gets me back to MyChart.

A key plot point in Silence of the Lambs.
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.
