tl;dr give to your local foodbank

Early today. I stopped at a church food pantry in an affluent Chicago suburb. 2 hours before the pantry opens, probably 50 people were lined up. I got an earful from the pastor (no she didn't vote for him) on expected shortages, because funding has been cut off.

Gone are the days that you could keep a bag of onions on hand? Half the onions I've purchased in the last maybe 3-4 months have gone to compost, because they're moldy.

(I bought 2 early last week, used one. The other day, I thought something was dead in the pantry. Nope, just a suppurating onion.)

I love this interview and the parallels between what he discovered as a historian making a thing and realizing all the little decisions a weaver makes in the process, and all the many things DH staff know about doing projects that just don't get written into the record of scholarship. #DHmakes

I’m having that thing where you log on to social and everyone is reacting to the new thing but the reactions are vague, aghast, angry enough that you’re struggling to figure out exactly what the new thing is. German must have a word for this.

Check out this thread. It’s certainly helpful for my own sanity to hear that DHS BWC shows what we all saw with our own eyes. It’s really something to be gaslit by the government after each of their attacks.
DHS claimed that on September 26, a DHS officer claimed that they were forced to deploy riot munitions because protestors were "becoming increasingly hostile."

In fact, "the [Body Worn Camera] video shows that the protesters were simply standing there when agents first deployed any force."

from the former BLS commissioner whom Trump fired this summer:
So great to see BLS back to work measuring and informing us about our large and dynamic economy.

It’s a great institution full of dedicated civil servants deeply committed their mission. They have had a tough year, and everyone is covering for someone who left. I thank them all for their service.

It will seem like he was punished now, that in some way he sought atonement, forgiveness. Ppl won’t remember that removal from Harvard was hardly punishment & he didn’t repent.
