Well, 2024 was rough for freelance entertainment/fashion journalism. But I did have some career highlights, like zooming with Michael Mann for an hour (!) to discuss the fashion + cultural influence of "Miami Vice" for The Hollywood Reporter www.hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/st...
I'm a little late to this, but I LOVED Boots, especially the soundtrack. So I talked to music supervisor Sarah Bromberg about the emotional '80s anthems, and of course discussed Max Parker singing Luther Vandross 💔 heywhatevernevermind.substack.com/p/boots-netf...

I've been wanting to write this story for 2 seasons now. It takes so much work to make Gary Oldman look like he just rolled out of bed!

I'm always interested in what @edeggans.bsky.social has to say!
Many thanks to Substacker Fawnia Soo Hoo, who kept me in her piece on Gen X men going through it on TV, even after I insisted this wasn't much different than the way other generations of men - mostly middle aged and white - have been depicted. READ: https://loom.ly/hOAs1bs

From "Black Rabbit" to "Stick," Gen X men on TV—and, tbh, real life—are in the throes of a midlife crisis specific to an '80s kid. So I talked to @mctelevision.bsky.social and more about it all heywhatevernevermind.substack.com/p/tv-gen-x-m...

Despite not having watched many of the recent series @fawnianewyork.bsky.social mentions in this interesting piece on how they borrow from comfort '80s TV, she and I did get to chat about some of my faves like The Golden Girls and Murder, She Wrote

I had lots of fun speaking with intrepid journalists @candicefrederick.bsky.social @allyourscreens.bsky.social for my investigation (har har) into how comfy shows, like High Potential + Matlock, hark back to '80s faves (Murder She Wrote, anyone? And I greatly enjoyed making this murder board ⬇️)

Apple TV+ is free this weekend. My utterly biased suggestion: Little America. Every ep is a short film based on true stories of immigrants to America. Some are funny, some are moving, some are thrilling. We wanted to make a show about immigrants that was, before all else, entertaining.
