NEW: "In a 2025 survey, we asked people in 25 nations to say – in their own words – what makes them proud of their country. In several ways, Americans’ answers stand out from those of people in other countries."
6 facts about national pride in the U.S.
Republicans and Democrats tend to highlight different sources of pride – a partisan divide that is not as pronounced in most other countries.

It is funny, as a pollster I tested how different endorsements increase support using conjoint for clients. It is interesting math of constituent size and lift.

But never thought of just making up ones 🤣

80% of the political posts on this site are some variation of a combination of these two mutually exclusive tenets:

1. i would simply not be in the minority

2. i would simply not do anything necessary to achieving the majority
Saw someone say about Democrats that “I just don't accept "we don't have the votes" anymore. Get creative. Just do things. “

… I am not doing free PR for Dems but literally do people know what a minority is

NEW: Abigail Spanberger this afternoon ordered that all state agencies leave ICE's 287(g) program.

This means that the state police (and some other agencies) will no longer be empowered to detain and arrest people for ICE.

Big, big move by the governor within weeks of coming into office.

Abigail Spanberger left the 287(g) program, which empowered state law enforcement to detain immigrants. Will Democrats also bar local police and sheriffs from the program?

I remember my father bringing this edition of the Post home with #DCU players holding the MLS Cup in front of supporters on the front page. I still have the MLS Cup gamer & photos cut up in a binder somewhere.

It was the start of my love for sports journalism. Today sucks. #SaveThePost

I grew up reading the Washington Post and have continued to subscribe as an adult, in part because of the great sports, books, and international sections that are being wrecked today. It was one of the world’s great newspapers. This is a terrible choice they’re making.

People who give prescriptive advice on how to win elections should at least be descriptively accurate about what people who are doing the actual work of trying to win elections are already doing.
I used to teach students that their literature reviews ought to try to characterize other arguments in ways that would be recognized by those authors. Most of the time on here, when I see someone describe what political strategists or consultants think, I don’t think it meets that bar.

Right now they're banking on the former. I'm serious. That's the strategy unless we cause hell. It's primary season. The people are enraged and we have the numbers. You have to bend the establishment to your will.

One thing I think we should consider more is how caring about politics and being a reliable voter are correlated but distinct traits. There are habitual voters who don’t want to discuss politics, and people who care about politics but struggle to follow through and vote.
Characteristically thoughtful discussion of a known snag of survey research -- people who care a lot about politics are more likely to take political polls -- and what we might be able to do to address that

(As noted, I think this is such a fun experiment)

this is an eminently losing battle that I will also continue to whole-heartedly fight
A hill I will die on: message-testing polls are a legitimate way to figure out angles that resonate with voters. This kind of survey is not a "push poll."

A "push poll" isn't even a poll--they are not collecting or analyzing data, just spreading negative messages to a very wide audience.
The survey in the field this week appears designed to identify Rob Sand’s weaknesses and the strongest arguments a competitor could make before the June 2 Democratic primary.
