I can be impressed by Mamdani’s ability to use his charm offensive to play Trump like a fiddle (presumably to protect NYC from ICE) while simultaneously being horrified & disturbed that any of these tactics are necessary in the first place.

Consumer sentiment continued its downward march in November. Inflation expectations are elevated but have cooled since Spring, while job security eroding. Younger workers most worried about jobs, while those with large stock holdings have lost the mojo they had in Sept & earlier in the month.

I found a lot to disagree with in this David Leonhardt interview with Sarah Isgur, starting with the assumption in the subhed about conservatives finding "its way back to small government," particularly since Isgur worked for one of the most invasive elements of the Trump I presidency.

The party that promised "free speech on campus" has made sure there can be no free speech on campuses.
This week, I withdrew from a speaking engagement at a public university because they sent me a list of prohibited “words & concepts.” I will not humor this censorship. It does a disservice to the stories I’m discussing & the audience, who deserve unfettered access to information & conversation.
