Okay, friends this book is really *incredible*! I spent the last week devouring all 500 pages. I couldn’t put it down. I hardly knew anything of Sumner but the caning & am now convinced he deserves a prized place in our histories. Ahead of his time, principled & unafraid to speak unpopular truths.
I’m so excited to announce that my book was published today! The book retells the life of Charles Sumner, an abolitionist senator who co-framed the Reconstruction Amendments. I wrote this book with my blood, sweat & tears as a student at Yale Law School. (1/x)

This story is another BIG problem for the Trump admin; in Abrego Garcia's criminal case in Tennessee, evidence shows the DOJ seriously mislead the judge about the extent to which Deputy AG Blanche and his office were involved in filing the case, bolstering the case for dismissal.
Judge Crenshaw wants to make public his 12/3 ruling discussing the key role Dep AG Todd Blanche’s office played in deciding to prosecute Abrego Garcia. But Crenshaw is apparently giving govt 'til 12/30 to appeal his rulings rejecting govt's atty-client & other privilege claims ...

He was also gay and lived with his long-term partner Francis Davis Millet.
Part of what makes me so angry: I was just listening to the great Doris Kearns Goodwin bio of TR and Taft, and she’s got a moving account of the aide they both shared, Archie Butt. Real public servant, former military, loyal to both men even as they became political enemies. (1/4)

Bovino, the man overseeing mass deportations, publicly declared that we must all have our papers on us, at all times, or we could be stopped, harassed, kidnapped, and detained, as they did with the man in this case, who is a US citizen.

According to a new court filing, the Trump administration has a six-page list of banned words that Head Start locations are forbidden from using when describing their programs.
Among the censored words: "disability," "race," "women," "trauma," "Gulf of Mexico." Short thread with the full list. 🧵

A striking think in the Humphrey’s Executor and campaign finance cases is you have Federalist Society saying the Court has already gutted precedents and “the sky hasn’t fallen.” And you have the Dem appointees saying “I’m literally being hit on the head by the sky as we speak”

The Roberts Court two-step is always:

1. Stop overreacting; we expressly say that nothing in today's decision overrules X.

2. Remember that case from a few years ago? It turned X into a desiccated husk. So no stare decisis and X is overruled.

May takeaway from the Kagan/Gorsuch questions at the beginning of the argument is that the Court voted to strike down the tariffs.
