This whole fight over transgender stuff happening on X is so weird to me. The most notable thing about trans issues in the last 5 years has been the enormous, coordinated anti-trans activism campaign across the right, aided by moral cowards in the center.

Exactly this. Look at what Reform are doing and saying, and look at what Trump's Republicans are doing and saying, and then try to spot the difference. This is the full-blown introduction of US-funded "Christian nationalism" (aka fascism) into mainstream British politics.
On top of this, it really risks tipping Reform into a US oriented, Christian nationalist, socially conservative party in a way that is uncomfortable for a lot of UK voters. The question is if those voters notice or care.

Do we now have a situation in the uk where a trans person whose place of work is somewhere that’s open to the public will have to use one loo whilst behind the bar, let’s say, but as soon as they clock off can use the other?
