Just applied for a local college

Switching careers at 30 is so terrifying, and... I don't want to. I love animating. But I just... don't think the games industry has room for me right now.

This video game would have sold better if it were a completely different game. I am very wise.

Look, I'm not a fancy CEO guy, but if someone said to me "the key to this successful single-player IP's success is to make it purely a multiplayer game. No, not a spin off: fundamentally change the DNA of what people loved about the core game" to me, I'd probably, like, quit that job or something.

If you want a vision of game development, imagine a team repeatedly and futilely trying to make an executive understand that “AI” not only creates more work for writers/editors but actively repels players and is not a “great marketing add”, forever
Wonder how the game I was writing where a C-level replaced me with ChatGPT is doing

Over $400m to open "multiple studios and build multiple projects", with none of the latter having surfaced.

Why would you do this? Why not actually get something out the door first before massively expanding?

The COVID money train absolutely fucked with some people's brains.

An incredibly brave woman, Ahn Gwi-ryeong, a spokesperson for the opposition Democratic Party, grabbed the gun of a soldier trying to bar her way to the national assembly building, after the president declared martial law in South Korea.

Haldeman (Elon's grandfather) was a pro-apartheid, antisemitic conspiracy theorist who blamed much of what bothered him about the world on Jewish Financiers. He also had many papers, articles and letters he wrote that are in existence.

Elon Musk's mother moved to South Africa in the year Apartheid was created, and she and Elon left the year it ended. The last Apartheid Prime Minister, a man who refused to testify at the Truth and Reconciliation Committee, was a family friend who stayed at their home. This is not a crazy theory.

one of my pet peeves in games is narrative urgency that's undermined by incentivized collection gameplay. When the story is telling the player 'You urgently need to save someone/something!', collect-a-thon map icons are just going to pull you out of acting your part authentically

I don’t agree with the original tweet; for instance, recoilers in Qud are important and have an appropriate cost. The real problem IMO is that “open world” has become a design “feature” and something that is done as a matter of course and not as a thoughtful aspect of a holistic design.
the biggest act of collective self sabotage among AAA game designers in the history of the medium was to approach "travel" as an inconvenience
fast travel in video games is 99% of the time papering over a problem with something in the games design that could be done better

Groundhog Day is evidence that more institutions should just do weird ritual shit generally. Some of it will stick then you have a beloved local culture. Highest performing employee in your firm slaps a live fish at the end of Q3, make graduates wade through ceremonial slime. Just do things.
