Boom!

A good deal of my time spent on the beach at Jökulsárlón is trying to capture waves hitting icebergs, without the iceberg moving (and being blurred). Occasionally it all comes together :)

the administration is laser-focused on making sure Americans don't get clean energy, so Saudi Arabia (Trump's paymaster) has someone to sell their oil to in 10 years when the rest of the world has moved on to solar+batteries
Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.
SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Visited a stone circle in Kenmare today. Near the circle was a Hawthorne “wishing tree,” where people hang wishes for things they want to see in their or others lives. Most were heavy and heartfelt pleas for peace, recovery or reconciliation.

And then there was this person who’s very mad at Nancy.

We don’t call everyone who disagrees with us a Nazi, JD, just the ones doing Nazi shit like:

-masked secret police kidnapping people off the street
-creating concentration camps
-attempting to eradicate trans people
-banning/burning LGBTQ/opposing viewpoint books
-murdering fishermen in open waters
Vance: "If you want stop political violence, stop telling your supporters that everybody who disagrees with you is a Nazi."

So if the real problem is not the amount of crime, but people's feelings of fear... then wouldn't the real source of the problem be the people overhyping individual crimes in order to scare people?

Unless you *want* people irrationally scared about crime, in which case it makes perfect sense...

This is not true. Blackstone owns 0.06% of the single family homes in America. There is no market where they own more than 1% of the homes.

Nobody has a monopoly on housing. 2/3 of American households own their homes and rental housing is a VERY diversified and competitive industry.

as usual, Trump's clownish incompetence and lawbreaking gets retroactively covered for by his allies on the Supreme Court, along with the media they are the real power behind Trumpism
NEW: Chief Justice Roberts has halted the reinstatement of FTC Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter—whom Trump fired in direct violation of federal law—while the full court considers the case.

In other words, Slaughter just got booted from her job again. It's a worrisome sign for her ultimate prospects.

If you're 60, 69.1% of all job growth since your birth occurred under Democratic administrations.

If you're 45, that number is 74.7%.

If you're under 28, the number is 100%.

Happy Labor Day.

Every time your electricity bill goes up for the next 10 years, it can be traced back to this Administration’s actions.

They are making solar and wind power illegal to build in the United States. They are artificially restricting supply while demand is going up.

No the core problem w the NYT is liberals trust it. It isn’t conservatives buying subs and doing wordle and getting excited by recipes. It is liberals funding the most influential news org in the world as it furthers right wing horse shit
I really don’t think the broad brush strokes help. I cancelled my subscription several years ago even though I enjoyed Wordle. Whatever is going on at the top isn’t good, it isn’t about liberalism, it’s about clicks at this point. No problem with you calling it out, maybe adjust the framing.

The point of journalism is to tell people the truth! If the population and political leaders are panicking about something that isn't happening, your job as a reporter is to loudly debunk it — not plead with the other party to join the panic.
"but crime is a real issue, people are worried about crime and you have to take that seriously"

No you don't! If people are getting more scared about crime while crime is happening less frequently, it's a made up issue and you should make a point of yelling that all the time

Once you understand that a driving principle of American politics is there is no such thing as a compassionate solution that's cheap enough or a cruel solution that's too expensive, a lot of things click into place.
I think it's possible that Trump's illegal invasion of DC will really in some sense "get rid of the tents." If that happens, elite commentators will rush to praise him and attribute it to the effectiveness of cruelty, and not to the fact that they spent millions of dollars per tent cleared.
