16 years ago today the Supreme Court decided that corporations could buy influence over our politics. As a result, too many representatives are beholden to corporate special interests rather than the people they were elected to serve.

After decades of service to our country, a career that started as a Navy pilot and finished as a three star admiral, I was removed from my position without cause.

I still have more to give, more to fight for, more work to do — and I am not done serving.

one funny ("funny") moment at oral argument today:

KBJ like 'lemme stop you right there' as a white woman in Trump's DOJ tried to argue that Black Codes were actually always unconstitutional and an outlier that shouldn't be part of a history & tradition analysis

"This is pathetic."

Indeed.

Gift link in the post thread.
My Republican colleagues must take notice:

The U.S. cannot base foreign policy on whether or not a president gets a prize.

This is pathetic.

It is petty and dangerous narcissism — behavior we might expect from a spoiled child, not the leader of a democratic nation.
Breaking News: President Trump told Norway’s prime minister that one reason he’s pushing to acquire Greenland is because he didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize.

"Minnesota is an odd choice for such a huge operation. It has fewer than 6M people—and its % of undocumented residents is less than half the ntl average.

They've misjudged the ground beneath their feet: ordinary ppl for whom watching their neighbors being dragged away is an intolerable sin."
I went to Minneapolis last week. What I saw was horrifying and inspiring in equal measure. Gift link to my latest column: www.nytimes.com/2026/01/19/o...

Sober thread. It ends at the precipice of the cliff with the infrastructure of our democracy rapidly crumbling into the abyss. We've been at this point since Trump 1.0 & Biden proved a poor remedy for a polity & dem party asleep at the wheel.

Soliution? WAKE UP and prepare to defend our freedoms.
So with everything happening in Minnesota, I feel like some people need an explanation of what the Insurrection Act is and isn't, along with martial law (which isn't the same and is very nebulous) from someone who knows what they're talking about. Buckle up.

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.

Marco Rubio used Trump to get "the U.S. military to swap out one dictator for another [in Venezuela].

Like Bibi Netanyahu using Trump to further his interests in Iran, or Peter Thiel using Trump to get Greenland."

Not to mention Stephen Miller using Trump to ethnically cleanse the US population.
Trump is severing the linkage between the legislature and the purse, and attempting to concentrate access to capital in the hands of the executive. This is not how a president of the United States observing the Constitution operates.
