On my iPhone, you can click the power button five times fast and it will lock and require a passcode.
A reminder- do not use biometric locks if you have any plans to record law enforcement. Don’t assume that you’ll remember the multi step/press requirements to lock the phone if you’re approached.

Passcode. Passcode. Passcode.
Here’s the link to the original story. I encourage people to include links to avoid confusion and misinterpretation. Unlike X, Bluesky doesn’t downgrade your visibility for adding external links. It also doesn’t add to your character count. There’s really no reason not to do it.

It's terrible that Trump ousted Erik Siebert bc he won't charge Tish James w/fraud when there's no evidence she engaged in fraud. But HOW he did it may lead it to backfire, just like the Eric Adams quid pro quo.

Trump Can't Even Weaponize DOJ Competently - emptywheel
Trump's ouster of Eric Siebert, who refused to charge Tish James for fraud without evidence she engaged in fraud, will create big headaches for Todd Blanche.

I really want to know how many Black and brown friends this guy has and talks to on a regular basis 'cause ain't no way he's on day 4 of telling Black people online that it's good actually for the FBI to come to your house. This legit sound like an opp.

My guess, by the way, is zero.
this post is getting a bunch of mock-horrified responses from the whiniest people alive but in a universe where protesters are getting federal investigations because they showed up at No Kings - something that hasn’t happened and likely won’t happen, but let’s pretend - then yes, make them do it
Even if this was likely to happen (it isn’t) YES YOU SHOULD WANT TO MAKE THE FBI COME TALK TO YOU. Make them spend the time and resources, draw attention to their overreach!

Are people aware the entire nature of peaceful civil disobedience is forcing this kind of conflict?

Many media outlets hid the full truth of Trump -- his background in organized crime, his Epstein ties -- out of fear, only to be obliterated by him in the end. Had they not self-censored then, they might not be state-censored now. When you hide the truth, you face the consequences.

it is absolutely fair to say that hakeem jeffries has, in the last year, shown more support for charlie kirk's life work than he has for the democratic nominee for mayor in his city, the largest city in the country

The fact that Charlie Kirk was viewed as some kind of a Titan of free speech and debate shows a bizarre trend where it somehow became acceptable for adult non student conservatives to invade college campuses and talk about why women and black people shouldn’t have basic civil liberties

Keep in mind that this is taken from a Disney production, one that just this week won an Emmy.

It may sound vaguely apropos.

As corrupt and appalling as the ouster of this career prosecutor for refusing to prosecute Trump's enemies truly is, I strongly encourage folks to also understand this as evidence that Trump's authoritarian designs are facing serious institutional resistance:
A disorienting moment: Trump is consolidating autocratic power in areas where there's an easy path to do so. But in other areas he's facing deep institutional resistance and people are refusing to abandon the rule of law. Here he's weak and failing.

Thoughts on that:

Speaking as a reproductive health reporter who covered these referenda endlessly and talked to MANY voters in Kansas, Missouri, and Ohio: Abortion rights are MORE popular than Democrats. They MAKE Democrats popular.

Why would Democrats run away from one of the few policies that works for them
I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

After years of complaining about cancel culture, the current administration has taken it to a new and dangerous level by routinely threatening regulatory action against media companies unless they muzzle or fire reporters and commentators it doesn’t like.
Let’s be clear about what happened to Jimmy Kimmel

i think that if the FCC threatened to revoke ABC’s license unless it replaced Jimmy Kimmel with Kevin Hart to diversify the network, Ilya Shapiro would be able to identify the issue here
This really is the final expression of "libertarianism" as it is practiced in the US today.

I know this case is crazy because the judge stayed up all night to hold DOJ's feet to the fire, but as a parent with young(ish) kids, I'm also thinking about how miserable the process must have been for these kids staying up all night, confused, likely scared and overwhelmed.
JUST IN: Drew Ensign, on behalf of DOJ, reports that all of the migrant children have been returned to ORR custody.

Periodic reminder I was tortured in childhood over autism and that’s what RFK Jr is trying to usher back in
RFK Jr: “If you’ve ever compared an unvaccinated kid to a vaccinated kid… you see the bright eyes, the engagement, the social interactions, the curiosity. And you compare them to the child who even had one or two vaccines, and they’re completely different.“

This man is an existential threat.
