This is an outdated and very offensive stereotype. Modern conceptions of algebraic geometry understand it to be a symptom of being isolated and weird. Those who suffer from it deserve our compassion. Do better.

It’s funny when I get the ‘numbers aren’t real’ line because on the one hand, one can have 2 shoes, so while 2 can not be held in the hand, the pair could be. They’re as unreal as say brown. On the other hand, I have a bunch of numbers synesthesias that make me experience them in sensory ways. So …
