ive seen more articles this week about how the phrase “abolish ice” could hurt dems in the midterms than ive seen articles about how paramilitary death squads terrorizing cities will hurt republicans in the midterms

if you described this legal theory to a founding father they would simply have shot you
Miller:  "To all ICE officers: You have federal immunity in the conduct of your duties, and anybody who lays a hand on you or tries to stop you or tries to obstruct you is committing a felony."

Yet another failure by SCP Antimemetics
what if donald trump isn't really a person, or rather, if the person donald trump is sort of an appendage to a giant mental construct that lives inside all of our heads and distorts reality according to its rules

Note that the fascist is not using the pepper spray for crowd control. He is entering a vehicle unimpeded to depart. He is simply using the pepper spray to physically punish an unarmed citizen he doesn't like.
Big clash this afternoon between DHS agents and protesters in a residential street in Minneapolis, following a DHS agent hitting another vehicle. Tear gas was deployed in people’s yards and agents pepper prayed people.

Thank you TCW for this instant classic of Harper’s Letter sophistry, explaining that the categories "right" & "left" are unhelpful in understanding a campaign of kidnappings & assassinations undertaken by an ultra-right wing secret police force at the behest of an ultra-right wing political regime

At last we have elected the king from the constitution, No Kings.
Asked “if there were any limits on his global powers, Mr. Trump said: “Yeah, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. It’s the only thing that can stop me.”

There are only three possible outcomes for undocumented immigrants in this country: mass deportation, amnesty, or legal limbo (i.e., status quo for last 40 years). The first causes violence in communities and harassment of citizens. The third quietly ruins people's lives, as opportunities pass them.

No sign of this being remotely true, by the way

Fascinated by the RW alternate universe where their crude isn't trash, WTI isn't trading at $57/barrel, outflows of refugees will reverse as the security situation deteriorates and Machado will somehow build the only country that doesn't trade with China

They didn't admit shit - this is a response to a prompt for Grok to write such an apology.

One aspect of AI induced risk is the fact that having a random number generator is going to speak for you officially is kind of bad
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

"How dare the USG not adopt the position that America Bad" is, I think, kind of a hallmark of immature anarcho-nihilistic "leftism," and that's the real problem with the essay, I think. The politics are bad! Very simple.

People very much DO choose to buy homes in fire prone areas. They should have to pay the financial cost of insuring those homes against fire.

Forcing people who live in South LA to pay higher home insurance premiums to subsidize mansion owners in Malibu and the Hollywood Hills is deeply regressive.

And, not to be a hater but...

If you hear someone saying cooling will be easier in space, you can instantly write them off as someone who has never read a single relevant book or paper and never talked to a single person with undergraduate level expertise. This is very basic.

Part of why this stuff keeps getting underreported is that our media class can’t get it through their thick heads that this is not a weightless debate over political ideology, but a declaration of war on over 100 million Americans, which DHS is announcing an intent to eliminate

You know who hasn’t cowered in the face of terrible violence and changed what they believe?

Minnesota Democrats, who saw one of their own actually get gunned down by a pro-Trump lunatic.

These people are cowards.

His fear of speaking out is much more personal: ‘I’d rather my house not get firebombed’”
