Perhaps because to decision makers public health= healthcare.
Seemingly concrete financial savings fit the accounting way of thinking better than nebulous benefits to health and wellbeing. Sounds more technocratic and gives sense of control. Intangibles harder to sell - a perpetual challenge.

Today: CAR-FREE DAY IN BOGOTA

26 years ago my brother Enrique as mayor, created the CAR-FREE DAY in Bogotá, citywide, 8m pp

After first one, car people upset, it's never easy. There was a referendum & over 2/3 in favor! This is why it continues, most residents love it!
Equity, sustainability, fun!
Name them

In short: the #AMOC is weakening, may collapse this century, &even small shifts could trigger abrupt change

These tipping points are a major national security blind spot, threatening food, energy &global stability, they must be addressed urgently

Autumn King carrots harvested today, only dry day this week.
Planted September, stood the Winter. Horray!

Wake up.
Public health should have spotted this deathtrap before the bodies started to pile up.

Cars kill hundreds of people every single year in Ireland. Cause untold carnage. Have destroyed the ability of kids to get anywhere safely. Congest our cities etc. But cyclists are the nightmare. Right got it.

“Could river restorations be key to easing floods?”

To some extent yes, but tackling climate change is the key issue

(& a lot of the surface flooding we’ve seen recently is nothing to do with rivers)

Could river restorations be key to easing floods?
Climate change is bringing warmer, wetter winters, which means more frequent flooding.

Remember when Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, had the journalist Jamal Khashoggi killed and dismembered in Istanbul in 2018?

Yet everyone bends to him due to his power over oil supply.

The world would be so much less evil if we phased out fossil fuels.

I don't think people appreciate enough the fact that, at a time where global warming was approaching an inflection point yet renewable energy was finally becoming economically viable, we decided to squander that opportunity because literal death cultists decided we needed Infinite Bullshit Machines.

Triple win!
The health of the planet, population health and the quality of life for many animals.

We are living in the end game for planetary health and thus human health.

Ask yourself, what issues have captured the focus of my local public health authority?

Labour keeps talking about saving the high street without naming the real problem. Car dependency. You cannot fix town centres while planning everything around driving. The internet is permanent. Retail only survives where footfall is dense, local, frequent, and cheap to access.
