ten years ago I had menorrhagia for about 8 weeks that was so bad I was visibly turning paler and paler and couldn't get out of bed in the last week. my gyn at the time put me on oral birth control and said to let her know when I wanted kids, and only then we could figure out what it was.
I have been living with this since 1992. There have been no major advances. People still don't get diagnosed. There are no real treatments focused in quality of life.
They will help you have babies but they otherwise wish you would just stop whining about it, because some discomfort is normal.

Oh thank you for the recs 🥹 I have abnormal amounts of bleeding (Menorrhagia) so a cup also overflows pretty quickly for me. I will definitely look into the boy shorts tho!

Something very cool about U.S. healthcare is that I've been anemic my whole life and had VERY hard periods (menorrhagia) but doctors dismissed it over and over until I was at the point of risking organ damage/death and was finally offered a hysterectomy at age 35.

Mine says I have a Dx of menorrhagia. Which was definitely cleared up when I had a hysterectomy. Which is not on my file. 😅

"Birth Control" pills are not only prescribed to avoid pregnancy.
It is also prescribed to treat heavy or hemorrhage type menstruation (menorrhagia), that causes severe anemia & other health complications. Women & girls with this condition need to be absent to school, work.

I had severe menorrhagia so bad it was putting strain on my heart from years of persistent anemia, so going from bleeding 3+ weeks out of a month to not at all has already significantly improved my quality of life. My cycles were also a huge dysphoria point as well so glad to be rid of them 🙏

I was very lucky to have two male obgyns who listened and agreed and didn't care about my age or a man's permission (I had a salpingectomy previously). Not having a period is surreal now after lifelong menorrhagia.
