The "Insurgent" Interurban Train reduces the Mexico City-Toluca journey to less than an hour, but its cost and the damage it has caused to homes are generating controversy. The project reached $8.2 billion, almost four times more than projected. It...

Me, Interurban PDX. I didn't know it would be my last pic there before they called it quits. They saved my life during the divorce litigation.

Need a national equivalent of fast and free busses. Perhaps the same thing for interurban bus lines?
February 17, 2026 at 7:34 PM
Correct! It mainly served as an interurban commuter line shutting passengers between Chicago and Milwaukee but as you can see it did provide local freight service

El Monte busway is the classic west coast example, construction began in 69 and was finished by 73
For some absolutely genius reasons we replaced a formerly double track interurban line with a single track line for freight which now hosts the San Bernardino line Metrolink service

Well, it's not a small interurban jet, is it?

Rumbling over the Key Pier, an old Key System wooden interurban sprints for land in the shadow of the new Bay Bridge — 1937.

It would take two more years before trains finally ran on the bridge. By then, people had grown used to driving and low bridge tolls killed the railway's competitiveness.

We are building the layout gradually in sections to avoid it becoming a massive overwhelming project, and to spread costs out. This part will eventually become the middle peninsula, and is a large locomotive facility with a coal mine and station above served by an interurban.

The estate once had a spur off of the Pacific Electric Sierra Madre line for Henry Huntington’s private Interurban car

One, two, three ... it is rollout day for 3 variations of the same car, almost the same.

Pacific Great Eastern had a specialty in recycling Interurban trailers, were they looked slightly undersized, but got diaphragm and would finally fit well into the red main line compositions.

I love trolleys... so few model railroaders craft trolleys and/or electric interurban cars.

When I move to bigger space I'm going to make dedicated rail line with catenary wires to power the cars...

This plan would have used mixed gauges for the elevated structure, with Interurban Lines running clockwise, and Narrow Gauge (PEPCO) lines running counterclockwise to provide bi-directional service

Yea I got enchanted by the 40th and Shafter yard. I really looking at local history by visiting various former locations. I just gotta build this yard. It's so wild that the Bay Area had effective Interurban transit in 1940. People often don't know how long electric lines existed out here.

I need to dig it up but I remembered reading an blog a long time back about the Citadis Spirits and how the only other system before Ottawa to use the Spirit/Dualis design was an interurban-like line in suburban Paris. And it was plagued with issues.

Last miles car free options are needed. It is hard to say what part of Snohomish county these drivers came from, but if average statistics are in play most have driven from an area within 7 miles. How many might live near the Interurban trail I don't know. I did see a lot of walkers along 44th.
