Given that Ontario almost gives away electricity at night I would think they could use that and store it somehow but they dont. Ontario hydro once tried heating greenhouses with hot water outflow from Pickering nuclear station but the tomatoes were hot with tritium.

1) Natural gas heating isn't great. Is there a reason greenhouses couldn't be heated via another means?

2) Considering for most people the alternative is imports from far away, I'm not sure the calculus is so obvious

The greenhouses are mostly heated by natural gas, this is not a good thing! We need to eat a seasonal diet as well as a local one.

Devon, in my WIP, is retired, and grows strawberries in specialized greenhouses at his home on the planet of Sedona. His neighbor is looking after them while he helps his friend of 45 years with a vexing problem on the Merchant's Promise, an interstellar Null Space freighter.
What sort of hobbies does your MC have? Do they get to do this in your book/wip, or is there just never time? #WritingPrompt

Unlike typical greenhouses, which require manual control, smart greenhouses utilize automation to optimize plant growth conditions without requiring extensive human resources. With this technology, crop yields can be achieved year-round, ensuring a sustainable food supply.

You could, with green energy, use more greenhouses to produce produce you currently get from foreign countries. I say this because ambitious Canadians have managed to grow bananas in Canada. This is impressive given our weather.

My dream business is running a hydroponic farm in a series of plastic camel-frame greenhouses to provide fresh herbs and edible flowers to local restaurants within 100 miles

But: in this economy?

Do not grow your peace lily plants in your hobby greenhouse. These home greenhouses do not provide sufficient shade and will expose them to the elements.

Mine is very similar but one of those greenhouses that’s lent up against a wall?? Maybe a pond with some of those giant spiky water lilies and, if I were *really* rich, an arapaima or two because I love those big boneheads!!

its amazing how many people think Israel was actually occupying Gaza before October 7th. The Israeli army marching the settlers out of Gaza in 2005, leaving behind prosperous settlements and greenhouses (which Hamas destroyed) is totally ignored or forgotten.

i have a headcanon that wealthy duskwights like the dartancours might have made their fortune by conducting business underground like subterranean greenhouses, renting underground storage spaces for foreign merchants who didnt pass the elementals’ vibe check, mun-tuy beans, etc

Yeah, the idea is that they make mini greenhouses but not good enough that they bake the seeds or keep them from experiencing the freezing temps the native seeds need. Keeps critters out and you don't have to worry about weeds contaminating the pot.
