thinking about all the time and care put into shooting One Battle After Another and Sinners in niche film formats, and the sheer beauty of the results on projected celluloid. A Netflix-owned Warner Bros will still release movies; I doubt it will release movies like that.

Black Flame by @scumbelievable.bsky.social for its unflinching look at lost texts and lost queers, an awful period in history and how long the shadow of a genocide really is. Possibly her best novel.

The Evil Dead. 1981. Dir: Sam Raimi. It’s hard to explain but some films carry their creepiness in the celluloid of the film print itself 📽️

If you’re a true movie fan or just love reading about the pre-Code Era, Production Code, and post-Code rules, this is a great read. Also hurry on your way to grab it if you enjoy movie docs like The Celluloid Closet. #booksky #classicfilm #lqbtqdocs

Fountain pen of the day (vintage):

From between 1926 and 1934, this is a Sheaffer Flat top, their first model in Celluloid (called Radite). A very nice pen with good weight and a superb 14k gold Lifetime nib. The pen uses a lever filling mechanism.

It would be especially cool if they struck new celluloid to play in art houses that still have the projection equipment … I doubt it, but would be fun to get that full 1977 experience

I was chatting with Dorian about this but damn if I don't love the texture to 90s cinema; that particular point in time where we were gradually leaving celluloid behind and incorporating greater digital technology.

It wasn't as uncannily smooth as our modern digital films tend to be...
This might be one of my new favorite movies. Eve's Bayou is beautiful, haunting, glamorous, and deeply uncomfortable. Gothic horror at its finest.

I saw "Small Soldiers" (and "Lethal Weapon 4"!) on a second-run in L.A.

I've missed a couple of movies now from yanking-off zealousness. And, it's crazy. Film is on little hard drives now, not towers of celluloid. Keep a bunch in the Cinema safe, and cycle them over the next weeks on odd days.

Fuck. His work in the 80's, as well as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, are some of the best pieces of film ever committed to celluloid. Rest in Peace, king

‘Angammal’ movie review: The change machine is seldom as brutal and tender at once on celluloid
The winds of time are seldom as harsh and gentle at once on celluloid as they are in Vipin Radhakrishnan’s evocative work, Angammal. A generational wind called Uchimalai Kaathu — believed to carry the scent of the Uchchaani flower, along with a deathly wail and malevolence — bursts from the mountains and into the village once in every 25 years.

The greatest depiction of being in a rock n roll band ever committed to celluloid

MK Annihilation is objectively one of the worst films ever committed to celluloid, but it is still easily one of the most entertaining things one can watch. Just an unending string of incomprehensibly bad decisions at every possible inflection point. I love it without reservation.

I just watched Thoughts and Prayers on HBO which was..horrific but well done

Somm (2012) is about several people training for the sommelier exam

I think Celluloid Closet is still on tubi! I watched it for the first time this year

MAGNOLIA. it's like someone ripped my heart out of my chest and transferred it to celluloid. very special to me.

Just the longer film loading on to the reel?
I sometimes struggle with the last bit of 120, depending on humidity, thickness of the base celluloid, clammy fingers, etc.

'Amityville II: The Possession'. 1982 (Damiano Damiani)

A charity shop pick for 99p a few years back - by far one of the most nightmarish & disturbing films ever committed to celluloid. It also happens to be that rare example of a sequel surpassing it's predecessor.

NEW REVIEW!! Super obscure and fantastically fun giallo A Hyena in the Safe on Blu-ray from Celluloid Dreams (@celluloid-dreams.bsky.social)
A Hyena in the Safe Blu-ray Review
It’s always exciting when an obscure giallo is rediscovered on video, but it’s especially exciting when someone finds a film produced before Dario Argento’s The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (Italian:...

if i was a shitty despot i would force hollywood to make a buddy comedy starring tim robinson and nathan fielder and it would be 6 hours long and would be the most uncomfortable shit ever put on celluloid
