Your DNA’s shape matters.

Using both math and biology, UC Davis researchers built a computational model to predict R-loops, DNA-RNA hybrids tied to gene expression and disease.

Computational Model Uses Language Theory to Predict DNA Shapes That Underlie Gene Expression and Disease
Your DNA may be a string of code, but it's also made of shapes that twist and fold. By combining math and biology, UC Davis researchers are able to predict R-loops, tiny structures that influence gene expression and even diseases like cancer.

Untangling DNA Knots with Math and Biology at UC Davis
Knots are a part of nature. From pocketed headphones to carelessly packed garden hoses, they find ways to manifest in strings and loops. This isn’t just a truth of mathematics; it’s a truth of biology...

Desmond Bane in Orlando and immediately they are using him in movement in the half court. Paolo Banchero loops to the side for P&R but you have a stagger for Bane on the other side.

It's October 1st, which means it's babygirl's birthday~❤️

My absolute favorite wig build I've ever done honestly. :3
She was a labor of love.
Uta is one of my top fav One Piece characters.

Great work from Michelle Wang’s group at Cornell exploring how RNAP II and associated R-loops act as intrinsic roadblocks during mechanical DNA unzipping. These findings have mechanistic implications for transcription–replication conflict.

RNA polymerase II is a polar roadblock to a progressing DNA fork
Nature Communications - Transcription–replication conflicts can threaten genome stability. Here, the authors show that RNA polymerase II (Pol II) is a stronger roadblock to a DNA fork in the...

Often easier to read, debug or write; or all three. The 'no loops in R' mantra is practically a superstition in many circumstances.

me v gpt - #AdventofCode edition continues, day 4 update (written in R)

Day 4 was fun - basically a computerised wordsearch. We tried very different approaches for part 1; mine was more abstract and faster, GPT went more brute-force. It LOVES nested loops.

However, on part 2 it struggled...

I'm about to take my first dive into actual proper crocheted lace (in 4ply, because I am a coward), making this beauty from a 1951 promo leaflet.

When I first started learning R, I was like yeah I don't really need to learn to make functions or For loops. My code isn't the cleanest, but it's not a huge factor.
Now that I need many, many sub functions and nested for loops for the model I'm developing, I have some regrets 🙃
