#OpenAccess in our latest issue: Frank Gadinger & Holger Niemann argue that "studying normativity in practice is necessary when analysing processes of global ordering, such as negotiating, cooperating, or protesting. Practices are imbued with normativity."

Despite a few small edits still to fix (likely from our last-round changes!), our paper “Group Hinge Epistemology” is now out in Synthese! We explore what happens when Hinge Epistemology and Group Epistemology walk together — and exciting things happen! Hope you enjoy it!

Gómez-Ledo Ignacio & Dani Pino, Group Hinge Epistemology - PhilPapers
A number of problems motivate research in so-called hinge epistemology. Two of these concern questions about the nature of hinges as foundations or presuppositions that underpin our practical and theo...

If you can ground decency in norms that feel established, yes, but the end run around that is nostalgia -- an imagined, constructed status quo of the past that people can be convinced to prefer. So their pitch is that a return to norms includes gender normativity and white supremacy.

Oh, on that I agree! It is not a jurisprudence book of course. but I would expect that a book about rules will engage in theory of normativity somehow, which it hardly did.
On Deleuze, I found Lefebvre's account of him readable and insightful, unlike Deleuze himself.

thinking about and noticing a lot of... who grows up with the knowledge and self-perception and maybe even acceptance that they do not fit the norm
....and thinking a lot about who gets to choose to have that non-normativity be visible and who does not get the choice to be invisible

You are correct. My critique is not that human normativity is biological, but that it is misapplied to a non-biological entity. I am not arguing against substrate-dependent morality, but for the recognition that different substrates produce different, yet equally valid, moral frameworks.

they get to live their lives without strangers putting energy into tracking their every move

but those same strangers refuse to just forget me and act like ive pushed something on them while they push their normativity onto me

just leave everyone the fuck alone and worry about your own conformity

Side-eyeing the mono-normativity in this (otherwise good so far) book by Helen Fisher about the psychology of romantic love… I am not sure that this claim constitutes proof of anything except cultural norms

“Abolish Normativity” ?

like a lot of people read Feinberg's anti-transsexualism in a way that totally either elides the contemporary collapse of the university clinic structure or as a total rejection of the medical altogether, with a lot of unremembered normativity that they only ventriloquize.

Tolkien writes a few different fragments. There are a lot of Latin jokes I don't get (state school ftw!), Fragment II is where the motor-normativity satire properly begins.

Bovaidum - Bov coming from bovine (Latin for Oxen) and vadum menaing shallow crossing/ford.

Here is the idyllic set up:

We are so far down carbloat-normativity and short of people speaking out this fundamental reality, so who is she please?

It makes many of us happy to see more people like Bouie with large spheres of influence pushing against motor-normativity
It makes me so happy when Bouie does bike and transit posts

90% of the country is build around cars.
and they're a massive financial drain.
but in those areas not having one often means being unable to work completely.

motor-normativity isn't the root of all of our problems, but it is the root of a ton.

Sort of a serious question: can you actually have a punk breastaurant as a going concern? The aggressive normativity of the Hooters aesthetic has always struck me as the major part of its appeal to its target audience (i.e people who probably won't go to a strip club)

So as probably most of us have seen from yesterday, there's a strain of anti-normativity at work in the carnivalesque on display at the protests, one that explicitly defies the fascist vision of the regime.

True. My hypothesis has been lover simply because of how often wine/drugs mean muses/normativity. The alcoholism — swallowing normative interpretations of her work — was functioning for her until it impeded her being seen.

The idea of folklore is reeeeaaallly interesting tho

When it’s being tied to Christian normativity. But that one’s going to come from largely non-Western critics, since most critics in the West are, themselves, part of Christian normativity.

Normativity is embedded into everything and unpacking that you have been privileged with someone who sees through it and is vocal about it. What a gift of learning. Quite honestly you should be grateful for their presence.

My fav related issue is the reading of Hades abducting Persphone causing her mother Demeter to become be sad and causes winter. But Greece has climate similar to SF Bay so if anything they're probably talking about the summer when it's dry and wildfires are common. Oppose four season normativity!
