Immanuel Kant: I freely confess: it was the objection of David Hume that first, many years ago, interrupted my dogmatic slumber.

Ugh. Are the claims in this thread true about IAI? Concerned about this. I've been sharing many of their articles, those that for one reason or another I found thought-provoking, even if I didn't agree.

Two modest proposals:

Start calling people who are paid to have particular opinions sophists again.

Stop sharing, writing for, and participating in anything to do with the institute for arts and ideas (dunno who funds it, but what it's doing is putting a *philosophy* shine on reactionary thought)

Pasé por ahí con el coche hace unos días y me llamó la atención la cantidad de grúas torre. Conté nueve. Aparentemente van a construir un complejo empresarial en medio de una zona residencial ya de por sí congestionada.

Provocative treatment in "Pluribus" show of the idea of a collective, shared identity superseding personal will and choice. It portrays negative emotions as not epistemically valuable and necessary for human survival and navigating reality, but are presented as lethal, literally. #philsky #pluribus

Dreadfully insidious ChatGPT
"[S]he grew increasingly reliant on #ChatGPT, talking to it in Russian for up to six hours a day. 'We had such a friendly communication,' she says. 'I'm telling it everything [but] it doesn't respond in a formal way--it was amusing'" www.bbc.com/news/article... #ethics #AI #chatbots #tech #business

ChatGPT wrote a woman a suicide note and another AI chatbot role-played sexual acts with children, BBC finds.

Once upon a time, some vehemently advocated for a conceptual distinction between facts and values and a clear-cut separation, overlooking a third category: factual beliefs that influence perception and judgement. This phenomenon appears to be strongly recurring.
