Had a fascinating conversation w a dozen sex workers today—ages 25-60ish, some w their infants w them. Main takeaway: USAID cuts hit their work HARD, not just bc ppl who lost their jobs are also now doing sex work, but bc USAID projects led to conferences whose attendees hired them (& no longer do)

I want to agree on principle but the only principle I have is class nationalism and I think it’s worth pointing out that it’s only us working class people which are conscripted to die for countries that give us nothing

I recall around 1990 an elderly supply teacher explaining to my class what war is actually like, macho mythology aside. The sound bullets make. Men crying for their mummys as they die on the battlefield. It's haunted me ever since, and certainly played a role in politicising me.
As a teen or young adult in the 1990s you had constant encounters with people in their 50s-80s who were combatants, victims or perpetrators during catastrophes of the mid-20th century

It’s because the WW2 tradition doesn’t acknowledge the racism of euro societies - so fascists can slither back in unimpeded on the backs of anti-blackness, Islamophobia, and all that other business they get mad at
Incredible that WWII has been the origin myth of the West for 80 years - saturating the culture, looming large in political rhetoric - and yet these leering beasts have been allowed to just saunter back into power as if no one has read a single history book.

Hey heads up everyone apparently we have to keep receipts for all of our property every otherwise the train company won't reimburse for property damage even when it's down to their own passenger assist access fails and passengers being aggressive while clearly having sharp items on them
