Fight? Oh man I don't have time to fight, I am to busy fucking my whole family. They really aren't happy about it, I can tell you what. Nana hit me with a rake and my eighth cousin turned the hose on me.

This would be a lot easier if I wasn't a Mayflower Society member.

Poem #8 of this seasonal sequence (MAYFLOWER TABLE). For more background on that little London sign, you might consult my poem of 30 yrs ago, "Stubborn Grew" www.lulu.com/shop/henry-g...

The landed gentry/"Mayflower" gentrifier class has expectations. Never in my life have I seen a group of people who pick the absolute stupidest battles. And to be perfectly clear: Paulie Gee is a jerk. However, he is a jerk who runs a business responsibly (and makes decent slices).

This is true for the “heritage citizen“ garbage from MAGA in the US too.

America is an idea—of equality and pluralism, rule of law and fairness not corruption and oligarchy— and that defines who Americans are. Not whether anyone’s ancestors came over on the mayflower
New YouGov research for ippr finds that civic conceptions of being British are held by most people, with a third prioritising birthplace. Reform voters are outliers, against the general public view, weighting ancestry and ethnicity more highly

I was once asked by some American tourists in Plymouth if I could direct them to Mayflower Steps. I turned and pointed at the steps immediately next to us. They looked. "Oh," one of them said after a moment, with a tone of disappointment.

His correspondence speaks to it well, but people tend to love propaganda that accords with their feelings, or at least appears to ennoble their politics. The Constitution Washington helped pass included a prohibition on religious qualification tests & bears little resemble to the Mayflower Compact.

If you thought the Mayflower landing and Thanksgiving were the central parts of the Pilgrim story, then I have a book for you!

Check out Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick. Here is my review.

Not a white Chrisrian? Most of the fucking idiots think he came over on the Mayflower

The “heritage American” thing reminds me of the old cliche of the Boston Brahmin who says their ancestors came over on the Mayflower. Now we hear it from our VPOTUS, who rose to fame by touting his status as a hillbilly and ranting against elites.

Spotted in the reduced price section of Lidl a few days ago: no love for the Mayflower.

Found the papers a family member put together linking us to several of the original Mayflower passengers. Those puritans would haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate me and I'd have been burned as a witch by their kiddos/grandkids

Does he actually think that shit makes sense?

Because I know folk who think that's what should have happened when the Mayflower landed.

This type shit is all Steve Bannon goes off about. He talks non-stop about charters and proclamations during the time of the Mayflower. They act like we all just got it wrong and therefore they have the right to re-write it. They refuse to accept the world as it is.

Like, obviously Franky was the son of immigrants, but does Miller really think that *anyone* named Sinatra came here on the Mayflower?

Tired: Assessing brown people's citizenship by asking how many of their ancestors came over on the Mayflower.

Wired: Assessing brown people's citizenship by white people's judgement of how sincere their enthusiasm is for certain professional sports leagues.
This is how Christopher Caldwell begins his essay on Zohran Mamdani for the Claremont Review of Books.

Why are these people such freaks?

Miller thinks Werner Von Braun was American. He came on the Mayflower.

Tim Gunn kissed me in the bar of The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. around 2008 maybe? (Not minor, totally awesome) I know I have shared these photos many times. Shut up. It is awesome.
