#Low-Tech
one of the things that appeals to me abt xiv as a setting is that rather than being just fantasy its also like 8x post apocalypse. low tech high fantasy does nothing for me. recovering society with ruins of hi tech civilizations and a non-magic-wielding enemy force using machinery to annex them? yea

the thing about tech like this is that it fails. a lot. power cuts occasionally, wifi signal is bad, a sheep chews a cable, a software update blows the system. so much of what we do in longterm building conservation is low-tech because it works and is reliable.

Surely in 2025 the Holy Dipstick could be a 24-7 sensor that directly links to a computer that operates the sluice gate control?

Or is this a TRADITION situation

followed a pattern where it originally started as a Russian 100% advantage and slowly the Ukrainians air defences started to reach a point where 85-95% of those drones and missiles we’re being shot down as more sophisticated defences along with low level old tech weapons were made available. Then

Apple has built its reputation on cutting-edge devices and sleek design, but the company’s latest product is decidedly more low-tech. https://cnn.it/3JJCl71

(Nobody tell my professional tech-writer-turned-tech-editor spouse that I'm trying to convince all of bksy to write low quality documentation)

"The Morning Show" somehow looks extremely expensive and extremely low budget at the same time.

And the amount of face smoothing tech being used is something...

The low levels of thought, writing, and grammar, and the high levels of countenancing or even reveling in evil found in the emails of the Epstein coterie makes me think that however bad we imagine the tech dudes’ brain-cooking group text chain to be, it’s surely so much worse.

2. Data center build out as a share of big tech company revenue. A lot of this is exotic things like private debt. Nothing to see here.

Here's my artsy penis pix for #scs #softiesunday. Are they artsy, or is my smartphone camera just way low tech?

anyway that was an accidental thread, but I guess as a conclusion the tech giants obviously prefer the low agency/low effort mindset so between that and majority preferences I reckon our people are stuffed 🤙

LOW-TECH!! IS GOOD!!!

Yes, we’re trying to go as low-tech as possible. Which makes CB’s decision to make all AP exams digital more frustrating, because I feel like I have to balance low-tech with typing practice.

🤔 Let's talk about LOW-TECH HI-TECH: advanced technology + deliberately simple production... To bring manufacturing back we need designs like Core One's bent sheet metal exoskeleton - any factory can make it, no special tricks, repairable with a hammer 🔨 Been sitting on this ...

I do see an aesthetic, though. Clean, minimalist and low-tech. It’s very appealing.

AI’s growth is driving a hidden surge in global water use, yet public awareness and corporate transparency remain low. Urgent action is needed: better reporting, water-smart tech, and stronger policy.

Another pathetic Russian non-starter.
Previous attempt turned out to be a human being in a robot costume: www.the-independent.com/tech/russia-...

Every part of Putin's Russia is poorly managed and corrupt to the core. GDP the size of Italy. Extremely low-quality manufacturing/tech sector.

I still prefer probably the most low-tech way to get information. I like to read. No QR codes, no podcasts, TikTok or YouTube videos- just words. That works for me. It's less complicated without bells & whistles.
But yes- I'm from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" generation.

Rotor entanglement & loss of control, blocking of things being dropped, premature detonation of warheads (on contact w/the netting), to a lesser extent blocking surveillance. It's the same low-tech but effective defense used on tanks: "cope cages". Very creative use of the idea!!!
