My kids are excellent critical thinkers and I gotta say it's mostly because their English/PoliSci/History major mom regularly does live analysis of things we're watching on tv.
Me to my kids the minute the halftime show started: "Ok, he's in a sugar cane field, that was the major crop of the Caribbean, and required slave labor. It also is why they make so much rum." Major newspapers: "so he's in a field of grass for some reason?"
