Stumbled on this early in the year, and have had cause to recall it often since then. It's from a 2018 U.S. DoD white paper on psychological and influence methods in conflict environments.

This refers to how would-be tyrants subvert previously stable democratic states. Explains it all, doesn't it?

There is still time to stop this slaughter of wolves b/c 1% of livestock *may* be prey & ranchers love the excuse to execute living beings 🤬

CALL YOUR SENATORS - please tell them to vote "no" on Beetlejuice Boebert's murder bill! Only ~5000 wolves in the lower 48

As long as the death penalty exists, we give the power to execute our People to the State, while we create a coarser, more brutal and violent culture. Abolish the death penalty—YES, even for "that guy"
Wrongful convictions happen far too often, propelled by the death penalty’s embedded racism, human error and bias, and political pressure to reach a conviction after serious crimes occur.

As long as the death penalty exists, we risk executing innocent people.

such a funny show—they murder alien nazis in cold blood, john-brown alien slave uprisings, execute feudal lords and self-proclaimed gods like a texan out the side of a helicopter hunting feral hogs

and then major carter of the us air force will go "ugh, they hired a nazi scientist after the war? 😐"
love how stargate sg1 has major carter hook up with a cop and the he's just an overtly abusive asshole the audience universally agrees is beneath her

NDSS 2025 – Too Subtle to Notice: Investigating Executable Stack Issues in Linux Systems
This research focuses on the persistent issue of executable stacks in Linux systems, a vulnerability that write-xor-execute was designed to prevent. Despite security measures, developers continue to unintentionally reintroduce these vulnerabilities. The study investigates the reasons behind these recurring errors in modern software development. The authors examine program-hardening tools to assess their effectiveness in preventing executable stacks. They also analyze the source code of the compilation toolchain, kernel, and loader to understand write-xor-execute enforcement. The research reveals that properly enforcing write-xor-execute requires careful coordination across multiple system components. Developers can inadvertently create executable stacks, especially when working with assembly code, even when using security tools. The study highlights that some hardening tools themselves introduce executable stacks, undermining their security goals. The paper discusses potential attack scenarios arising from these vulnerabilities and proposes mitigation strategies. This research contributes to the understanding of persistent security challenges in modern operating systems. The work was presented at the Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium. NDSS aims to advance security technologies through research and practical application.

I think St. Brown was upset he didn’t keep going to the outside and cut it in instead.

It was a really well designed play… just couldn’t quite execute it for the score.

You will take my computer from my cold dead hands. A device that I own, that will run any piece of software I choose to execute on it, to whatever ends I so choose, is very close to a civil rights issue to me.

But it’s also a fight that we’ve basically lost. Let’s be honest. We’ve basically lost.
