He'll just have his people calculate inflation without food, rent, and healthcare. If you do less testing, then you'll have less cases.

This is the guy who called people the R word. 😐

it's not actually trying to run a business! It's trying to calculate the distribution of tokens that will best produce a response that a bored US undergrad will think is satisfactory!

As the day has progressed, the conversation among analysts on the favorable US inflation has shifted toward how genuine this significant data beat really is.
The debate centers on the number of "imputed" inputs and the methodology used to calculate them—fueling pockets of skepticism. The housing...

the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. we can calculate the area under the curve using integration, which corresponds to net unnecessary suffering aaaand wow that's a really big number, i see now why we don't normally do this

Apparently @edhrec.com is moving from "Synergy" to "Lift Scores", which I like -- it's essentially identical to how I calculate synergy in the @17lands.bsky.social data.

But we are also stupid and myopic, and often all the consequences are impossible to calculate even for the wisest.

Not thinking is easier. And if one thing is common in all living forms, it is laziness.

You don't think maybe just a little of the blame attaches to the politicians who don't have ANY principles -- the ones like Newsom who consciously, deliberately calculate on how many of the groups in Niemoller's poem they can afford to write off for the sake of electability?

If you've had experience with a narcissistic manipulator, eventually you start to get that... It's not a grand mental strategy where they pick choices from a tray of options and calculate to "hit you with (x) in order to (y)." It's all just instinctual reaction to them. It's the only tools they got.
