Welcome to A New Era, Sherif Soliman!

Sherif Soliman is a good choice for Budget Director. He has lots of experience under the de Blasio admin and, as CUNY's top budget + finance person, knows that fiscal austerity is imposed mostly (if not entirely) for political, and not financial, reasons. Soliman is a net-win for the many.

This matters to me even if I don't live in New York, because I heard rumblings over the summer that CUNY's Newmark J-School has planned to sunset its only Asian Media Initiative, which also hosts the only complete census and media safety support initiatives of Asian American news outlets

Love to see this next week at @brooklyncollege.bsky.social, inaugurating the Daniel Simidor Reading Room at CUNY's #Haitian Studies Institute.

Daniel was an amazing librarian & activist, who I learned so much from. The panels look great. 🙏 💙@rejinl.bsky.social!

We are currently thinking through how the underlying principles that led to projects like the CUNY Academic Commons, Manifold, Blogs@Baruch, Vocat, OpenLab, CBox, ASHP, and the great OER work happening in CUNY's libraries should inform curricula, pedagogy, policy, and strategy related to genAI.

I volunteer to be an alumni member in support groups the English program at the CUNY’s Graduate Center creates for incoming students & it’s one of my greatest professional joys to stay connected to this institution.

The conservative news outlet spent $25,000 to tout the ex-rep’s backing from the ex-president, who also did a robocall for him. Newsmax’s paid promotion got logged as a political ad by Facebook — but isn’t covered by city public campaign-finance rules.

Of course, every year Andrew Cuomo was governor, he deliberately attacked my union because we didn't endorse him, especially after he drastically cut CUNY's pensions.

**** him.

I can't wait until he's buried for good and I never have to think about him again.
