Friends in the NYC area: This promises to be FANTASTIC. I am otherworldly bummed that I can’t be there to meet & commune irl with @thetattooedprof.bsky.social, Lisa, & others whom I admired from afar before having the joy and honor of working w/ them on The Campus Crisis Toolkit. Go go go!
On February 20 we'll host two events @thegraduatecenter.bsky.social to celebrate the upcoming release of _The Campus Crisis Toolkit_ (SUNY Press).

@thetattooedprof.bsky.social and Lisa Di Bartolomeo will be joining us for a day of reflection, connection, and solidarity.

Still plenty of time to put together an application.

Three scholars held this role previously. Each of them made a significant impact working with graduate student instructors at CUNY, and then moved on to a tenure-track position at other universities.

The thinking here is that the provost will be able to stand up a universal digital project based curriculum that is aligned with distinct (though not-yet-written) departmental learning goals in a university with 40k undergraduates in a matter of months? Lol
It's hard to overstate how impossible this demand is from Purdue's administration to implement these AI requirements by next fall. We are nowhere close to understanding what AI proficiency means or what it looks like in education.

Earlier this week, 42 state attorneys general sent a warning letter to the major AI companies regarding the dangers and harms created by AI chatbots. It's as forceful an indictment of what's happening that I've found, so here's a short thread to walk you through the evidence they've compiled... 🧵

One of the more disruptive outcomes of genAI flooding the zone is the mass conflation of facility with expertise and wisdom, and the elevation of voices (including many hucksters) who have been quick to seize that opportunity.
I think this is an advantage auto-didacts have, in that they are forced to develop these steps early and often. But it's a double-edged sword, because it can also devolve into "doing my own research."
I got this useful bon mot from a middle school teacher recently.

In response to, “I DONT UNDERSTAND,” he calmly said, “okay what steps have you taken to understand?”

And that’s when I realized that a lot of folks have no steps.

I so appreciate this attention to what we’ve been doing with ed tech at CUNY and the notion that the higher ed ecosystem can benefit from it. Too many folks to name have been involved in those projects over the years, and it builds upon work and commitments at CUNY that goes back generations.
Huge thanks to @mattseybold.bsky.social for writing this great post, which highlights CUNY's transformative potential to build open educational infrastructure
