Let’s make an actual point on immigration, since Vance thinks of the Immigrant Act of 1924 so highly.

It did make it much harder for immigrants to come here, especially from Southern and Eastern Europe, which were the main points of emigre at that time.

But it also had unintended effects 🧵/

🗃️
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵
Pretty damning evidence that regular non-profit donors don't want to give to orgs that heavily push with AI

The whole survey is interesting, as are Cherian Koshy's attempts to summarize donor's opinions as "conditionally optimistic" about being solicited by AI when much of the data says otherwise.

The Democratic Party needs to change. Here in Brooklyn we've been organizing for years to kick out the old machine and transform the local party into the grassroots powerhouse it should be.

2026 could be the year we finally do it! But we'll need your help!

Nah. No more of this. If you live in New York Fucking City, you're not allowed to prioritize quiet and "suburban charm."

If you really want those things, then move. People who actually love the city for what it is can't afford to live here and want better transit access. #urbanism

The most incomprehensible thing to me is this mindset that A.C.A. Subsidies are their “best issue.”

Yes, the healthcare subsidies are important. But, the President’s party is kidnapping citizens, sending our taxes to Argentina, and they tore down half the White House… among countless other things.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I was worried that the loss of evergreen status for the DeBlasio “good job picking a mayor who doesn’t suck shit” article meant that only the very bleak mass shooting one would be relevant everyday.

But Chuck always comes into save the day. We can definitely post THIS everyday friends!
Chuck Schumer Helps Pull Democrats Back From Brink Of Courage

Reminder that the last time Schumer had a serious primary challenger it was Geraldine Fucking Ferraro in 1998.

For 27 years he has been encouraged to do weak shit like this while the world crumbles around him.

Vote in primaries people. Every year. And push pols you like to run for higher office.
If Schumer votes AGAINST this but enough Ds vote FOR it that it passes, he needs to RESIGN immediately.

He will have shown himself to be absolutely ineffective as a minority leader. He has to go.

Literally resign tonight.

This is so true. If they give in for nothing, we will never be able to use this justification again. It will also only embolden the authoritarians in charge.
It would have been better to simply cave on day one than do this. how can you ask anyone to suffer through a shutdown ever again, if you can deliver *nothing*?

If you live in New York like I do, you have every right to call Chuck Schumer now and tell him not to be a little bitch who caves to authoritarianism.

This seems like a great way to get involved, New York, if you’re not already.

Meeting the people that want to be engaged with defending this city in person is so critical. And getting involved these days, in any way, is so important.

Why would a JUDGE need to give a weeks notice to visit a detention center? They should be able to walk in and observe conditions at any moment.

My in-laws come by with significantly less notice.

This is disgusting.

Without question, one of the hardest things I’ve taken on.
In 2021 a single, Muslim, Bangladeshi young woman raised in Kensington got elected to the NY City Council in D39, the district that de Blasio and Lander had represented. Her name is Shahana Hanif and she won re-election in 2025 with a remarkable 70% of the vote against seriously funded opposition.

If this is what relying on "the courts" looks like, then I'll never rely on them again. The only way to really put a stop to any of this is to get informed and involved yourself because the justice system ain't coming into save us.
Good afternoon. U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman is presiding over a remote status hearing that just began over conditions inside the ICE facility in Broadview.

Screw every Ivy school for hoarding all the money in education, and then capitulating constantly like little babies to blatant authoritarianism.

Public universities (like CUNY) should not be constantly forced to fight for their lives with 1/1,000th of the resources that these private schools have.

All the wealthiest people in the world are actually morons.

To commemorate Elon Musk getting another $100 bajillion dollars, I remind everyone to recall when he tried to brag about his absolute shit-tier Elden Ring build that even a total FromSoftware noob could tell was bad.

Being able to see Eric Adams' actual vote will never be unfunny to me.

Goodbye to what is likely the worst mayor this city has ever had. Which is saying a lot because we also had Jimmy Walker.

Least surprising horrible advertisement I’ve ever seen…

If only most of the city’s police force didn’t despise the city and the people they’re supposed to defend…

I can't stress enough how much this message hit me one year ago. I joined a local club (shout-out @newkingsdems.bsky.social ), became more active in my union ( @psc-cuny.org ny.org ), and got involved again after I stopped participating in activism and politics in 2016. /
I expected to wake up exhausted, despondent. but I looked up and for the first time in my life I thought, "there's no one left to look to. it's just us."

so I am shocked at how I feel: furious, clear-eyed, galvanized. we who saw this from the beginning, for better or worse, it's our time to lead.

"Zohran he'll had to play ball" 🤪

Whiniest police department in the history of law & order organizations with a budget higher than most national militaries is about to get a LOT whinier.

Get ready y'all.

Charlotte. North Carolina. Voted FOR being taxed to fund transit. People want to live in cities where they can get around easily and cheaply. Enough to literally pay more taxes for it. Don't let lazy politicians lie to you that the people don't want this anymore.

Looking at you NYC.

Charlotte area voters on Tuesday approved a transpo tax that will raise an estimated $19 billion over 30 years.

Funded transit projects include:

• Red Line regional rail to Davidson
• Silver Line light rail from CLT Airport to Coliseum/Ovens

Observation from being at this polling site yesterday for 14 hours: 30.6% of people did NOT say "no" to me or say they were voting for Cuomo, but I did get a lot of heads looking down and "hmphs!"

Maybe if you can't say who you're voting for out loud, you... shouldn't vote for them?

I already knew the eyes of the world were upon us in NYC. But, listening to BBC World News on my commute and hearing the immediately recognizable voice of @bradlander.bsky.social schooling the British Broadcasting Corporation on the monumentality of this moment was a nice cherry on top.
