Can’t find a way to write this that doesn’t sound like a twee bromide but genuinely, if your end of year review is that you survived painful things happening in your life & the world, stayed empathetic in an inhospitable environment & treated yourself & others decently then that’s achievement enough

Inevitable, but people are trusting it to read and write for them.

Just found this quote and want to tape it to my brain as I wallow in regret over stuff I said:

“If I'm sincere today, what does it matter if I regret it tomorrow?”

One of the people killed by Soldier F was a man who stepped out to help another of his victims as he lay dying in the street. He waved a white handkerchief as he did so. Soldier F shot him in the head. His name was Barney McGuigan and today his family had to listen to a judge acquit his killer.

This is going to seem very random but I miss how the old bird app would have worked brilliantly for this:

I’m looking for someone who can help me find information about how, and in what - if any - capacity, the Salvation Army might have been involved in adoption processes in London in the 1910s.

Dictionary of the Oldest Written Language–It Took 90 Years to Complete, and It’s Now Free Online
It took 90 years to complete. But, in 2011, scholars at the University of Chicago finally published a 21-volume dictionary of Akkadian, the language used in ancient Mesopotamia.

I see grocery/takeout shaming discourse going around again, so this is your periodic historian reminder that cooking from scratch daily while working has never been sustainable, and for millennia everyone either relied on takeout & restaurants or ate in huge households w/ big dorm-like group dining.

Laten we #HetIsGeenFamiliedrama groot maken.

Where is the patronage today for art, tailoring, craftsmanship, and public buildings? Why are new elites so allergic to any sense of beauty?

I argue this is happening partly because people have associated crappy aesthetics with authenticity, intelligence, and virtue.

I'm so proud of this open statement from #NotInMyName speaking up for our trans siblings.
Far too often, the only women’s voices we hear seem intent on stoking the flames.
