Fra/Ger took it as a good faith negotiation all along. They even accepted Ru's claim DNR/LNR were real Ukr separatists. She repeats the lie to all pro-Ru's glee who use it as proof the West wanted to “steal” Ukr from Ru all along. She sounds like a Ru propagandist these days. Her legacy is shot.

While people split hairs abt whether Merkel blamed Poland/Baltics for a missed negotiation opportunity in 2022 or only implied it, the worst part of her statement was repeating the lie that the Minsk Agreements were *meant* to give Ukr an opportunity to become stronger when, in fact...

An explainer for the "NATO expansion is to blame" folk: Ru objections to NATO expansion in EEurope are pure imperialism, not "security concerns". When Ru frowned upon its former victims bolstering their defense, they signaled intentions to invade them again. Ru wasn't owed deference or accommodation

The Russian drones operations reveal two things that Europeans seem unable to admit to themselves. The first is that they are unwilling/incapable of stopping these operations and seem helpless to keep them from multiplying. The second is that the US government doesnt care and will not help Europe.

While it's appropriate to criticize Jake Sullivan, the main responsibility for the failed escalation management strategy rests with Joe Biden and Olaf Scholz.
Russia’s refining capacity is collapsing at an unprecedented rate, deepening its soaring government deficit and making the war in Ukraine increasingly unsustainable.

This pressure could have been applied years ago if not for one person and his fear of “escalation”.

Regular reminder that Russia losing everything means radioactive craters where Moscow and St. Petersburg currently sit, not merely failing in a foreign adventure, or losing some aircraft sent to intimidate Europe.

When Russia threatens nukes over less, that is called "a bluff." They fear MAD too.

There's zero discussion in Ru about how to avoid escalation in Ukraine and w NATO; only bravado, threats, and plans to "achieve the goals", yet Westerners are telling me Ru is afraid for its security and are constantly preaching caution. This moronic benefit of the doubt will bring the West down.

so did anybody see or photograph trump actually golfing or did we just see him get in a car in golfing gear

Hungary must accept harsh realpolitik. The facts on the ground are Ukraine (big, powerful) destroyed a Russian oil pipeline for its own legitimate security concerns. Yet Hungary seeks to antagonise Kyiv, its large neighbour. Now poor Hungarian children will go cold for Orbán’s woke moralising!

We really need to start thinking of freedom of movement as a basic human right, because we're driving ourselves into fascism trying to deny it.
At some point, Western publics are just going to have to accept that people moving around the world is a reality of the modern interconnected world, and that really not liking that isn't going to make it stop.

We don’t have a president, we have a mad king. Shaking down businesses, demanding ransom money, and presenting himself awards he never earned and doesn’t deserve, while his servile flock of toadies run around going “Yes, sir! Very good, sir!”

American government has collapsed
Trump: Since 1978 the Kennedy Center honors have been amongst the most prestigious awards. I wanted one, never able to get one. I would have taken it. I waited and waited and waited and I said to hell with it, I'll become chairman. I will give myself an honor. Next year we'll honor trump, okay?

Security for Ukraine and Europe depends on the two coming together to insulate themselves from Washington and construct deterrence against Moscow. The talks that really matter, then, aren’t the ones in Alaska next week. They’re the ones in Europe, right now.

There's a certain kind of 'everything is about capitalism' leftwinger who is particularly useless at the current moment, because their argument relies on the idea that racism is somehow good for profit and rent extraction. It's not. Racism is bad for business, and the left shouldn't concede that.

Why has Mira of Kyiv (@reshetz.bsky.social) been suspended?

My info is that she is a local news reporter. I have never seen a post that violated Bluesky rules.

Her voice is important to bring Ukrainian news to the broad audience.
