I finally finished watching all of classic Twin Peaks last night. All the smarter things have been said elsewhere, but I thought it was fascinating to watch The Missing Pieces and see that 13 (!) returning characters were entirely cut from FWWM. Complete antithesis of cameo culture.

As someone who's also been posting less about climate despite it being my #1 issue, the reasons are largely (1) it's felt futile during a Republican trifecta, (2) most of my hope has been channeled into passive optimism about the explosion of solar, and (3) surprisingly sparse hurricane seasons
The Post (me and @kcrowebasspro.bsky.social) analyzed the social media posts and appearances of prominent politicians across the country.
We found that no one is talking about climate change anymore. In 2025, mentions are 60% lower than in 2024.

As a Texan, "Cornyn getting lost" is actually much more than I could've hoped for from my senators

I only had time to make it to one event at the Texas Book Festival and it ended with some random lady harassing Maria Reva during the Q&A

I don't want to be too emphatic about this on main but "Sabrina Carpenter isn't hot to men" sounds like gibberish to my brain
Something I find very funny is people periodically talking about how Sabrina Carpenter "isn't hot to men", as if heterosexual male fans are the audience her career depends on. I thought we had all understood 'women mostly dress up for themselves, or for women' but looks like we've forgotten again.

I would put more money on continuing to harvest infinite energy from the sun over assuming that forcing everyone to use The Machine The Lies To You is the steady basis of an entire economy
A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

My theory as to why AI doesn't lead to real productivity gains is that, normally, the time you spend working on a project is also the time in which you define and refine your mental conception of your actual project goals. When AI speeds up the production, you become rate-limited by conception.

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

Tonight's even more proof the mainstream reporters who are still on Twitter are suffering from a brain problem akin Havana Syndrome that is preventing them from accurately doing their jobs. They are being cooked alive by a snuff-focused apartheid algorithm.

really important element of this basically total victory is that it puts the fear of god in republican incumbents and may bring the redistricting push to a total halt

My actual aunt, with whom I spent many weekends, went by "Aunt Crow" and I have no idea what her real name is
The Zohran "aunt" thing is the funniest hatchetjob of all time. There was a prominent person in my childhood named Uncle Bonehead who was just a friend of my uncle. To this day I have no idea what his actual name was. This nomenclature is not unusual in my culture (recovered alcoholic Masshole).
