If this holds, it would be one of the largest state legislature swings in the last 4 years.

Its an absolute bloodbath for anti-trans Republicans.

Day 52: The Artistic Process™️

I can feel myself going insane
A 4-panel comic drawn in pen with inkwash shading. The panels are equal in size, are stacked vertically, and are wide and rectangular. Panels 1-3 show the same view of me sitting at my drafting desk working on a comic, doing the different stages (pencil, inks, erasing lines) and the fourth panel is looking over my shoulder at a finished comic. In panel 1 I'm stooped over with my head resting on one hand while the other pencils out the comic, and the thought bubbles surrounding my head say "I can't believe we're all just sitting here adn watching this happen... half the country doesn't even know or care... god damnit." In panel 2 I'm inking with a sable brush, with thought bubbles that say "What's going to happen to the immigrant families here... what about our schools... they're trying to criminalize librarians. And cut the whole health department. Jesus christ." In Panel 3 I'm erasing pencil lines on the finished comic, and the thought bubbles around me say "Now he's going to privatize the USPS. Or dismantle it. Will my spouse have a job in a few months? What are rural communities supposed to do? Fuck." Panel 4 shows the finished comic I was working on: a single panel with a top caption saying "When my cats get into the cheese puffs, lol" above a drawing of my cats farting comically (Egg Noodle's fart is blasting him into space). I'm looking at my creation and saying "Yeah that'll do it." Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (2-21-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes)

Too long for alt text here's a summary: faculty members at UT Austin are condemning the university administration's decision to invite heavily armed city police and state troopers to the campus in response to a planned peaceful educational event by the Palestine Solidarity Committee. The event was meant to include teach-ins, study sessions, pizza, and an art workshop, with no threat of violence or disruption. The faculty members witnessed police using excessive force against students, including punching a female student, knocking over a legal observer, and violently arresting students for standing at the front of the crowd. They are calling for no business as usual on campus and are urging the community to gather at the main mall in front of UT Tower the following day.

Something I think most people who know policing through true crime or cop shows don't realize is that "solving cases" isn't something homicide detectives are really trained or interested in doing, their job is about collecting evidence to be able to charge and convict the guy who obviously did it.

Because as the kid pushes the beaded curtain aside and comes in, Ed can see that there’s a surprisingly solid-looking spirit trailing behind him, flinching slightly as the beads pass through him like he’s expecting them to hit. And from the spirit’s outfit, which looks several centuries out of date, if he’s a relative it’s a very very distant one. (Or he carked it at a costume party. Ed’s seen weirder.) The kid watches Ed’s face as it flicks between him and the seemingly empty space over his shoulder. “Oh thank fuck, you can see him. Ed isn’t sure what he expected --- some flash of recognition, maybe – but it’s just a skull. A skull of distinction – it’s clearly old, the jawbone is missing, and parts of it are covered in silver – but nothing about it feels like him. “Fucking fancy.” He reaches a hand towards the case and then stops himself. Stede grimaces. “It was being used as a – drinking vessel, for a period. Hence the silver.” Ed snorts. It’s the kind of thing teenage goth-him would have thought was completely badass. Current-him just thinks it’s funny. “Not like I was using it at the time.” “Yes, well,” Stede says, clearly affronted enough about it for the both of them.
