@translunartl.bsky.social submissions are open for writers of color. In a week, the general window starts. Time to polish those 5k max speculative stories, don't you think? On 15 April, it'll be over and you'll have to wait until September!

If you're in the US, considering Europe for your PhD, and you identify as a minority, I will chat with you and review any application documents you need 🧪
Many US students don’t know how to seek opportunities outside the US. With some help from our colleagues in EU and Canada, we could put together a consolidated website of PhD opportunities and scholarships outside the US, organized by field. There might still be time for this year in some places.
I’m having similar conversations and sharing international opportunities a lot. I’m sure for a lot of US based trainees that feels overwhelming. I moved to Europe for my postdoc.Happy to chat with any trainees about my experience if it would be helpful.

Something I wrote: "Eastern writing is non-linear, something which frustrates the Western reader."

Not everything must have a definable goal.

My 2025 hobby is helping my pals de-centre tech from their lives.

Acquire CDs, records, DVDs, paper books, reference books, magazines, dictionaries, etc. Go to the library!

Going analog is a small way to stop relying on tech bro monsters & helps preserve knowledge they're literally deleting.

When using Microsoft Word or Google Docs, don't just make text bigger and bolder to make it a heading. That will work for sighted users, but screen reader users will miss that and just hear it as normal paragraph text. Use actual heading styles, like level 1 through 6.

Super random, but I hope someone can help: I am the director of a small 501c3 writing community and I am looking for a video game writer to teach a craft class in 2025. Like a literal “How to write for a video game 101” because a couple members are curious. Anyone know anyone?

I just looked at a highly circulated starter pack for top science and science communicators and there are 58 men, 27 women, the rest orgs based in the US, and 95% white. Maybe, just maybe, do a bit of curation and check your biases and show some care with what you put out into the wild.
