Had a nice catch-up lunch with @kradec.bsky.social, which was lovely on a social level. But he also gave me a suggestion that fixes a structural problem in a thing I'm working on. Yay writer friends!

Canned pumpkin hack - I keep having recipes that only use part of a can. I've started stirring half a cup of the leftovers into my oatmeal as it cooks. It's delicious!

Oh geez - I just found out that my publicist emailed me the morning I had surgery, we had a whole exchange about scheduling a call for this week, and I never gave her a time. I have NO MEMORY of this conversation.

Did...someone just...steal my decorative kale?

(I'm really hoping for, like, skunk over human.)

Obligatory slightly awkward awards eligibility post. I only have the one novel out in 2025, but if you're nominating for Best Novel in one of the many awards out there, and you liked THE GRIMOIRE GRAMMAR SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION, please keep it in mind?

I don't actually love Swift's new song "The Fate of Ophlelia", but I have to give her credit - good gravy, that's an earworm.

Thanks, dentist office.

On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Notes from cleaning out my inbox:
- LinkedIn loves to claim I'm on a roll. I haven't posted in months.
- Clearly everyone is clearing out their unsuccessful applicants folders, given the rejections I'm getting now for jobs I applied to in Feb.

I have exactly the wrong amount of time before my next thing I have to do today to get anything useful done.

I just remembered I had a bunch of cool pictures from London I never actually posted.

Goddamn it I've been stuck halfway through this chapter forever. My husband always jokes when I complain that I should set something on fire. Just because that was the solution that ONE TIME...

damn it he's right I need to set it on fire. That geuniunely fixes everything.

Fiddling with my social media because it's easier than solving this huge tension issue in chapter 24...

There's lot that I don't miss from my time in corporate, but dealing with all the book stuff really makes me miss some of the excellent graphic designers I've worked with. I'm not a bad hand with Canva, but it's not the same as a really good designer.

My whole household had a grumpy morning, my plans for the day have gotten upset for the second time in a row, and I'm having a lot of trouble getting myself moving as a result.

Nooo I am not ready for the Black Friday sales, except the fact that I am buying Christmas gifts means that I'm encouraging this behavior.
November 9, 2025 at 9:29 PM
Doing a bunch of my Christmas shopping, and doing my very best to use it to support small businesses. (Tea! Weird jam! Books from local indie bookstores! It's yucky out, but a lot of the folks on my list want cozy things, and it feels cozy to procure them and help out small businesses, too.)

I bruise ludicrously easily, so my post-op foot is currently a dazzling array of colors.

I'm struggling very much with the "you just returned from an international business trip and rolled straight into foot surgery, you don't have to be productive today" thing. Looking at the colors helps.
