One of the things I love about watching Korean cooking shows vs American is the completely different set of assumptions about what ingredients/techniques/dishes require explanation vs assuming the viewer is familiar.

Me, outlining: And then THIS will happen (chortle, kneads hands in anticipation)
Me, getting to that place in the outline: How the hell are you going to pull THAT off? Who put this here?
Outlining me: *whistles innocently*

I have a lot of thoughts about the "I can generate 200 books a year you can only do 2 at most if you actually write the things, I win" bullshit, and no time to yell about all of it. So I'll just say this:

I am trying to master a new professional skill and the imposter syndrome is STRONG and I just have to keep reminding myself the only way to competence is through the suck.

Reading up on Japanese history, trying to keep track of all the Oda Nobu-somethings, which I suppose is still preferable to Europe's "15 people all named Henry/i".

In conclusion, when reading multi-generational history, no one has enough unique names.

Husband is running a Groundhog Day D&D game for four teenagers who have never seen Groundhog Day. The clocktower just reset. They no longer have gryphon they managed to tame on the last round. The wails, they are delicious.

I took the opportunity to fill in the gaps in my collection + support a good cause!

D&D themed cake I made for my kid. Chocolate cake, chocolate mousse filling, chocolate cremeux, American buttercream. I had way to much fun with the burnt sugar flames.

Reminder to self for winter protests - just because you're cold doesn't mean you're not dehydrated 🙄
February 7, 2026 at 11:13 PM
Great turnout for a protest after ICE started raids in Jeraey City, despite it being really damn cold. ("We're freezing/we're freezing/we're freezing for a reason")
February 7, 2026 at 7:09 PM
It's 14 deg out, I don't want to go to this protest, but I keep reminding myself that if Minnesota can do it, so can I.

It's going to drop to a low of 4 deg F with a windchill of -20 and 60 mph gusts this weekend. So I have spent the evening with a glass of wine, the latest @worldbuildcast.bsky.social and a ton of weatherstripping and weatherproofing caulk, redoing the windows and doors.

I'm looking up dog breeds--I need a visual reference for a project I'm working on, and so I'm choosing the dog 100% based on Gothy vibes. But searching for "goth dog" gets content marketing listicles (that are perfect for what I need) but are very distressing if people use them to choose a pet.

Brain: Let's look at social media!
Me: But you're stressed out about all the things you have to do and also the world, and every time we look, you feel bad!
Brain: But but doooooopamine
Me: You're not going to get any dopamine, you're just going to feel bad.
Brain: But we might.
Me: No.

It's not just the women and girls we know of. It's all their future work, and everything they could have been, and how we build structures that shelter their abusers. It's how a man's future has always been worth more than my past, present, and future combined.

I'm looking at my last few posts, and it's a lot of promotional stuff and reskeeting current events, and I feel like I'm overdue a folksy window-into-my-life or shitpost and I'm coming up dry. I'm currently sublimating my existential dread about *waves hands* into anxiety about passports and DHL.

Just spent all morning tearing through @caitlinrozakis.bsky.social 's THE GRIMOIRE GRAMMAR SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ASSOCATION. Snipped out a couple of quotes for a friend with a 5yo. What an enjoyable read - I can't remember who recommended it, but if it was you, thank you!

The Washington Post is getting rid of its Books section. We’re losing the institutions—journalism, middle-class artistic and intellectual culture—that once made life bearable. Those things were a threat to the super-rich who increasingly govern us. Democracy dies in illiteracy.

Fascism wants you to believe that you are alone. That you are isolated. That the feelings you have are yours and nobody else has them because everybody is too afraid to speak.

But love is stronger than fascism. Community is stronger than fascism.
