The Wright Museums Instagram page is HILARIOUS. Think The Office but it's the staff at a Museum for Black History. Better believe this is on my list of places to visit.

When this is over. All over. And it will end:
We need talk about the restoration of the humanities. Pushing back the pendulum after this 30(+)-year swing.

My love to every theater kid, dance kid, music kid, art kid, etc (and those who facilitate what it takes to bring their dreams to reality.)
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

I didn't know this story and I will sit with my unsettled spirit for the rest of the day.
There is the reminder in this article that the United States Supreme Court did not ban the execution of children in this country until 2005.

EJI is an extraordinary organization and I'm so grateful for it.
On this day in 1948, an all-white jury sentenced a Black woman and two of her teenage sons to death for killing an armed white man in self-defense.

I was sent this video of agents at her door:

please remember that no matter how many “ICE is losing in MN” articles you read today, there is still a very real, urgent, ongoing crisis in Minnesota.

people need food and they need rent money. that has not changed.

Yep. I was there. That shit suuuucked. Kids were in preschool (hint: they just... didn't go to school that winter), husband rode the commuter rail every day (hint: the trains were... never on time... still are never on time). I am not convinced I fully survived with my sanity, but... I did survive.
Do you know about the winter of 2014-2015 when Boston lost its mind from the snow?

The National Guard is still patrolling DC, carrying handguns & long rifles, patrolling vibrant community spaces in packs to intimidate residents, especially Black residents, of the city.

Keep that in mind as you see the videos of them handing out pizza & coffee in MN.

“Outside agitators” is older than Putin; I am begging white people to crack open a history book about Black Americans for once
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.

Yet another reminder:
It's us. It's art. It's joy.
Y'all--it's us. It's art. It's *joy.*
We're still here. We're making. We're here and we're making and it matters.

Hi, watch this video. It's us. It's art. It's joy.
Who directed this?! I imagine they had this playing on set and told every dancer in the video "just do whatever you feel." That's the beauty and power of music. You don't need to know the words to fully experience it.

I will not be SAT for this performance, porque voy a BAILAR!!!

It's the new year and now only three months until the release of Wayward Souls, the delightfully dark sequel to the gothic supernatural mystery, Strange Beasts. I can't wait for you to read it--but until then, here's a teaser of some of the things you can expect!

Yet another reminder that we need English majors and historians. I absolutely live for threads like this.
Forget the "Happy Holidays" debate.

Let's talk about why the British (& Australians/New Zealanders) say "Happy Christmas", while Americans exclusively say "Merry Christmas."

HAPPY derives from Middle English 'hap' meaning "luck" (as preserved in "hapless").

Happy Birthday = "Lucky birthday!"

Yep. I’m in a well-funded suburban district and they are reading excerpts of literature in a textbook rather than full works. I listen to novels in the car and normalized audiobooks for my teens. We need to talk about the textbook industry as much as we need to talk about general curriculum policy.
As a parent of a now middle-schooler, I'm really hoping and expecting that by the time she hits 8th grade she's reading novels in school. But that's not happening everywhere in D.C., as I learned from this informative op-ed in @51st.news: 51st.news/opinion-dcps...
Opinion: DCPS middle-schoolers should be reading novels
Many parents like myself were shocked by a recent change to the English curriculum at Alice Deal Middle School.

Daaaaaaaaaamn. This review is, as the kids say, absolute cinema.
I wasn't gonna watch it anyway, but... daaaaaaamn. It's BAD bad. All the way bad. I'm not the least bit surprised.
I've now expanded upon this observation!
