Road bikes are the bike equivalent of a little red sports car and a trophy girlfriend. Some people have a legitimate need, but mostly they're a midlife crisis.
And your hips will thank you if you get a low step through, especially as you age. You won't ride a bike that hurts.

My advice is to ignore anyone telling you to get a road bike or anything that requires clip-on shoes or special equipment. Get something that doesn’t strain your back or shoulders and with fenders and a rack so you can get groceries. Prioritize comfort over speed.

Genuine question I was thinking about yesterday as I watched someone run a red light 2-3 seconds after the walk signal turned on - if there are cameras on every stop light in San Diego, and the city of San Diego is broke, and people are getting mowed down by cars, why not ticket red light runners?

Well I just got to have a full fucking panic attack in the middle of a busy intersection where there are only sharrows, no bike lane, to get to a bike-laned street because the cross street light is so short I can't outrun the oncoming cars - a guy whipped within a foot of me going 50 mph.

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.
