If you’re good at internet sleuthing and want to put your skills to work to help wildfire victims you can check for LA county rentals that have suddenly doubled in price, publicly name and shame the agents doing this, and report them to the government because it’s illegal: oag.ca.gov/contact/cons...

"AI server cooling consumes significant water, with data centers using cooling towers and air mechanisms to dissipate heat, causing up to

* 9 liters of water to evaporate per kWh of energy used"*

Reminder: Generative A.I. MUST DIE for us to survive the climate crisis. NO EXCEPTIONS.
AI Is Accelerating the Loss of Our Scarcest Natural Resource: Water
With the rise of generative AI, companies have significantly raised their water usage, sparking concerns about the sustainability of such practices.

Explicit policies of forcible detransition and mandated conversion therapy are beginning in the US.
The FL Department of Corrections is attempting to "reverse" the gender identity of transgender people in its custody, referring to trans identities as "short-term delusions" and withholding hormone therapy. Reviving psychiatric theories of the 1950s, they blame trans identities on "childhood trauma"

92 year-old Oscar-winner Joel Grey pens this must-read op-ed about how the lessons of 'Cabaret' are just as applicable now as they were when it was first staged over 50 years ago.

Heed its warning. Don't get distracted.

Gift article to read, share and contemplate.

Opinion | Joel Grey: ‘Cabaret’ Was a Warning. It’s Time to Heed It. (Gift Article)
Much has changed since the show debuted on Broadway in 1966, but it’s what hasn’t changed that should worry us.

Yep. The goal of anti-porn laws isn't to stop people from seeing pornography. It's to create a class of speech that's legally suppressible, and then apply it to dissent.
We are so tired of being right
A Tennessee Board of Education has now banned Wicked, Beloved and 35 other books as "pornography."

Under a new TN law, any description of sexual activity is "harmful to minors." Another 150 books have already been flagged for removal.

Sex workers tried to warn you.

Welcome to #TransTuesday!

This week we’re covering something that plagues so many trans people for so long, and can be so incredibly painful:

PHOTOS AND REFLECTIONS.

Let's talk about why they're so difficult, and what it's like to never see the real you reflected back.

As I've been saying: It's eugenics
This is genuinely great from Gessen if only because it takes something pretty basic about anti-trans politics (it's part of a broader reproductive regime akin to the eugenics of fascist cults) and explains it to an audience still convinced this has anything to do with fairness in women's sports

Yeah trans people should collectively be able to run months of constant ads telling the GOP to eat shit if Trump loses
I also firmly believe that we need to crush these people’s spirits into blood and earth, not be *nice* to the amoral supporters of an aspirational gore-soaked dictator

I will yell forever about the authoritarian inclination to flatten visual art away from context and provenance in order to reduce them to empty imagery, comforting and unchallenging to the basest of popular desire. Yes, it is manifestly theft, but it is also destroying visual literacy itself.
I hate how many AI art images are showing up in my visual reference searches. I'm not just looking for "images", I'm looking for art that was made at a historical moment to connect me to other human beings and their values and ideas! God damn it, art is more than an image, more than an artifact!
