Well, this is not good. I like to say that if someone has invasive VRE infection (eg. BSI), it's as much of a marker of how ill they are than the actual cause. But patients with cirrhosis are those people.

I actually saw a commercial for rifaximin for HE on TV the other day (!) #IDSky
Research shows: Rifaximin prophylaxis drives resistance to daptomycin, an unrelated, last-resort antibiotic

Rifaximin is used for hepatic encephalopathy in liver patients at high risk for infections, including VRE treated with daptomycin. The antibiotic was thought to pose a low resistance risk
Rifaximin prophylaxis causes resistance to the last-resort antibiotic daptomycin - Nature
Rifaximin use, particularly in patients with liver cirrhosis, may be compromising the clinical use of daptomycin.

Dear Humans,

Your great-grandparents prayed for a cure for measles.

You have it—and yet some of you want to 'research' your way back to the 1800s.

RFK Jr finally recommends vaccination to deal with the measles outbreak hitting Texas right now.

This is quite the about face for a man who’s been spreading harmful anti-vaxx rhetoric for years.

I finished my first set of 30 longitudinal knowledge assessment questions for the #ABIM yesterday. Pretty painless and way better than having to take a long exam. The fact that you get immediate feedback is worth it alone. I hate taking a test and having to wait for results.

Bluesky doesn’t have to be bigger than Twitter to be successful. It just has to be inviting, engaging and big enough that people can find people and accounts they enjoy engaging with, and or following.
