Hello, I'm Melissa/Shuvva/Vapornoir.

On the Internet I draw comics about my anthro OCs who live in a surreal cyberpunk hell city.

In real life (but also on the Internet) I am a science policy person and advocate trying to beat COVID into the ground.

my favorite part is how, since it's schedule II, they can't just transfer your prescription to a pharmacy that has it in stock. you have to contact the prescribing doctor and get THEM to PERSONALLY move it. and we all know how fucking easy it is to get ahold of doctors don't we folks
i have been on hold trying to get my medication for 20 minutes. btw if you have adhd you are expected to have time to do this with every pharmacy in town on the last day of your meds every single month. you basically just can't do anything that day. it's a day a month that you can't plan anything on

The nightmare the US federal government's idiotic rules put ADHD people through, is cruel and stupid and pointless but it sure harms their lives as I've seen so many times up close. Being chronically ill in the USA is an enormous investment of time and scarce money

Great work by @onschoolsafety.bsky.social advocating for something simple but essential: better air quality for kids and teachers.
Schools have become cesspools for cold and flu, but they don't have to be: Ontario School Safety
The volunteer organization Ontario School Safety is calling on the provincial government to improve air quality in schools as flu spreads.

We’re over halfway through our end-of-year fundraiser, and we’re not where we need to be to keep our vital work going. We have three weeks left to hit our goals of $60,000 and 200 monthly supporters.

It sounds like Waymo failed to program the vehicles to switch to stop sign mode in the event of a failed light? Every human driver has to learn this rule, and I don’t understand how the California DMV can possibly justify licensing any “driver” including an algorithm that doesn’t know this
Much of SF lost power last night. Waymos blocked intersections across the city, even though they are Wayless than 1% of cars on the roads. They accumulated at their failure points--intersections with no green lights, in busy areas, and shut down traffic there.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 20:

Remember this iconic astronaut boot print from the moon? 🌕

I recreated the boot's sole in silver.

To go full circle, I then traveled to Florida (2022) and made this imprint on the beach close to the Kennedy Space Center, where Apollo 11 launched from 🚀

No document will protect you. All they have to do is take it from you and "lose" it; take it from you and say you never gave it to them; claim it's fake ⬇️; make a new rule that you need ANOTHER document. Citizenship is a made-up status that governments decide the rules for. No one is free until all.
Dulce Consuelo Diaz Morales was born in Maryland. She has a valid U.S. birth certificate, medical and immunization records, and sworn affidavits.

Yet, ICE claims her documents are “not authentic” and has held her in immigration detention for days.

PG&E is having a massive outage in San Francisco. Waymo robots aren't handling the traffic light outages well. Cell service is also out is some places.

No surprise as Waymo robots & cell have repeatedly failed during power outages.

CPUC regulates both Waymo and PG&E (Profit Greed & Explosions).

Since his appointment, RFK Jr. has pursued a brutal vision of American health that several experts liken to a sort of eugenics. Kennedy has made it clear that certain deaths are acceptable or even preferable to a world where every child is vaccinated.

America is giving up on a generations-long public health struggle **that it had already won**
I cannot emphasize to Americans how FUCKING BAD disease can be and how FUCKING HARD our ancestors worked to eradicate the worst ones for our society.

Those horrific USAID death numbers? From now-untreated diseases abroad.

That doesn't happen here yet. But it did during early covid, and can again.

Finally started playing it, it's very calming.

I've collected a bunch of meat from the human bodies but haven't gotten the stamp so I can sell it to the inn-keeper, repaired a bunch of graves, saw a witch burning, looking to trade nails so I can repair the corpse chute, etc.
There's a game called Graveyard Keeper where you play a medieval graveyard keeper who has to keep finding new ways to make money.

It takes hours to dig a grave, when you can toss the body in the river and be back for lunch in half an hour. You have a renewable meat supply to sell to the butcher

It all started in 1955 with a misprint in a Colorado newspaper and a call to Col. Harry Shoup's secret military hotline. Shoup played along with the tiny voice who called, and a tradition was born. From the NPR archives.

The cure for misinformation is not more information or smarter news consumers
Political scientist Samuel Bagg explains why social identity is at the root of the misinformation crisis -- which calls for something deeper than factchecking.
