As someone who was there, and is a "community member" (and yes I gave Joey a mild amount of shit for composing that line while he was literally sitting beside me) and made the time to be there and enjoyed being around a lot of people committed to it... he's not all wrong but that take misses much.
New Column:
Today's first Hamilton Community Safety Summit was lacking something important - community members
Held during banker's hours with 10 days notice, most Hamiltonians couldn't attend
It is time for community summits, in the community, at a time the community can attend #yhmcc #HamOnt

COLEMAN: Community Safety Summit Lacked Community Members
Good concept, but it needs to happen in the community, across the community, when people can actually attend

Tremendous to hear that Sarah Kendzior claims she has been suspended from BlueSky. Hoping that is not the case and that it is a permanent ban!

I'll always remember Timnit Gebru fondly when ICE is mentioned; when facial recognition algorithms were newer she went on a ferocious years-long campaign to drive AI makers to improve their ability to distinguish Black and brown people; now ICE has a facial recognition app to scan everyone's face ✊🏽

the thing is, there are much more difficult fights on the horizon. if we give you power there will be times right wing media is engaged and youre on the right side of history and wrong side of public opinion and why would anyone think you have what it takes to do what we all know needs to be done

I have to hand it to them, it's an incredible bit to publicly lose a game of chicken, admit that's what happened, and then spend the next day lecturing everyone about courage and tenacity

UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.

Finalement, la tempête de hier (on a eu un peu de neige et grésil) est ici avec 24h de retard. Grosse neige lourde et panne d’électricité. Ça commence bien l’hiver. 😛

Just to be clear because there has been a lot of confusion on this: I started wearing several new pairs of such styles last year in early summer, so that's when the "phase" (it's a trend, come on this is pure trend) started at least in Toronto and New York. It's about capturing my look, obviously.
A reader asked our fashion critic: "When did the retro sneaker phase start, and what’s it all about? There are so many cool color combinations … but will it last?"
What’s With All the Retro Sneakers?

in this spirit, I've just sent out 30 more FOIAs to mid and low-major institutions, asking for topline financial disclosure metrics on revenue sharing payments. Tried to get a good cross section of states, conferences and budget size.
NEW EXTRA POINTS:
Schools, large and small, are dragging their feet on releasing ANY sort of athlete compensation or House settlement figures via open records request.
Their arguments are not convincing. Releasing the files will help (almost) everybody.

Forget "competitive harm." Just release the NIL files.
Keeping House data private doesn't help anybody ... except probably agents.

Wow! Unequivocal! Bobby you yutz do you think this will or will not be equivocated
The RIFs language is actually great. Not only does it rehire the people RIFed during the shutdown, it makes it an unequivocal Antideficiency Act violation to do ANY MORE RIFs through the duration of the CR (Jan 30)
