Wit.

It's well worth watching, but I can't imagine wanting to repeat the experience especially now that my mom's in assisted living.

So now federal employees will be even more protected than they were before, when it was already illegal to fire them without cause during a shutdown or threaten to withhold pay from them when they return to work?

If you truly believe that this vote wasn't a mistake, you are unfit for your position.

I've given my new Senator a lot of shit on here. But I don't think anyone with power has laid out the stakes of what we're facing as clearly as she does right here.

And if she's saying this, it's because she feels she must.

Today in terrifyingly chilling news…
This quote continues to rattle me to my core:

"So what you’re telling us is you need less evidence to kill somebody than you do to hold them."

That's Rep Adam Smith to Pentagon officials in a briefing on Trump's illegal boat bombings. As he told me in this piece, they didn't answer his objection:
Awful: Pentagon officials told lawmakers Trump now claims authority to bomb people merely “affiliated” with “narco-terrorist" groups, Rep Adam Smith tells me. But under questioning, they wouldn't say what “affiliated” even means!

Lots of fresh info in my new piece:

Looks as if Trump is saying no Democrat will be allowed to win another national election—and he will use the FBI, the DOJ, and the CIA to make sure of that. This is a full-scale attack on American democracy, and every Republican, CEO, and conservative mouthpiece who doesn't object is complicit.
Trump: "We can never let what happened in the 2020 election happen again. We just can't let that happen. I know Kash is working on it, everybody is working on it. And certainly Tulsi is working on it. We can't let that happen again to our country."

This is, I think, one of the most frustrating things about the mandate to “reach across the aisle” & “engage in civil debate” these days. You are not obligated to offer validity to false, harmful narratives by engaging with them. You are not obligated to defend the bright-line boundaries of reality.

This is a really good article which gets at something I've had cause to think about for some time now: what it means to be a federal employee when the elected officials in charge of your agency despise you, don't believe in your agency's mission, or a combination of both.
Earlier this year I published a post from an anonymous federal employee about why he was choosing to not accept the “fork in the road” offers to quit. But now… open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...

I wish every Democrat would watch “The Fugitive”.

Harrison Ford is wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He escapes a bus-train collision, steals an ambulance, and sets out to prove his innocence.

The lesson is this: NO ONE GETS MAD AT HIM FOR STEALING THE FUCKING AMBULANCE.
