After a relatively quiet period, storminess is expected to return to the Southeastern U.S. late this week. By Friday, a storm system is likely to bring a surge of heavy rainfall and severe weather to the region. Follow you local NWS office for details.

Don't let this Jan 6th point get lost:

Jack Smith testified to Congress he had "proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

In other words, he could prove in court that Trump attempted a coup.

Don't forget folks: allowing yourself a vision of the future you'd want for our country and planet - not the one you'd settle for, not the one you fear, but the future of your dreams - isn't naive, it's a vital cognitive skill. That's how we articulate what we most value. What's worth fighting for.
Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.

OMG 😭

Huntington's is an inherited disease that's like Alzheimers + Parkinson's all in one. NOW: "once the gene therapy has been delivered into the brain... [it] injects a piece of DNA to reprogram the neuron to become a factory for its own cure."

LIFE SAVING!

Funny New Year’s resolutions are great, but I think the best I’ve ever heard is the person whose resolution was to be more comfortable. If something was lowkey bugging them, fix it instead of putting up with it. Use the softer towel, wear the nicer socks. If something hurt, take a fucking Tylenol.

THIS. Did you know sickle cell is curable, now? FULLY curable.

If you're feeling down or despairing about what FEELS like technology/advancement/science "standing still" or being fully malicious, I have great news: You're not paying attention to actual science. Just tech industry marketing.
meanwhile.... medicine has taken INSANE leaps and bounds in the last 2 years.
we're out here curing HIV and leukemia and creating 100% efficacy vaccines against all sorts of cancers, and now this??

between this and renewable energy outstripping fossil fuels in efficiency, the future is bright
Wanna see real-life miracles? Fund scientific research.

A team of US scientists just cured Alzheimer’s in mice — and there is now hope that the disease can be reversed in humans.

So hey new virus mutation just dropped. If you have a horrible sore throat, fever that won't go down with NSAIDs, bad headaches, PLUS all the other symptoms of the flu, but are testing negative for COVID and Flu A&B on home tests?

You have Subclade K/H3N2. You have the flu and it will suck.

My questions are these:

1) How did I wind up sitting at this desk in a brownstone on West 35th Street in NYC?

2) How long is it going to take #NeroWolfe to have absolute hysterics at a blatant Woman existing on his live-in staff?

3) Will I last long enough to finish typing?
Well, now I'm an English professor...

@sailorrooscout.bsky.social did a good breakdown of what was noted in the paper, in a long thread post.
GOOD NEWS! Researchers have shown Alzheimer’s disease can be REVERSED- not just prevented. Using a potent neuroprotective compound called P7C3-A20, they found RESTORING balance to a central cellular energy molecule (NAD+) not only PREVENTED disease features but REVERSED them, EVEN at late stages.

The 'kin' of ‘napkin’ means "little."

‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.”

So a napkin is a little tablecloth.
